BROOKINGS – The South Dakota State Jackrabbits bounced back into the season at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational on Saturday, with the men taking first over conference foes North Dakota and South Dakota.
The trio of
Nick Wessels,
Reid Pierzinski and
Jacob Lackas got things started for the Jacks early in the men's 60m hurdles with times of 8.21, 8.21 and 8.42, respectively.

Wessels and Pierzinski went on to run 8.16s in the finals. Pierzinski's mark landed him the fourth best all-time performance. His previous best was 8.19, which he set earlier this season at the SDSU Holiday Invite and Multi on Dec. 6 in the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.

nd/ 6.89),
Coby Hilton (4
th/6.92),
Landon Larson (6
th/6.95) Â and
Emmanual Phoulom-Smith (7
th/6.96) advanced to the finals In the men's 60m dash, giving Hilton plenty of company as he took second place with a time of 6.87.

In the jumping pits,
Tre Manning sailed to a new personal best and first place finish in the men's long jump. Behind him,
Daniel Clarke came in third place with his 22-11.25 jump.

Noah Huber also picked up a first place finish and a new PR along the way, this time with a shot put throw of 56-07.50.

Caleb Bray (2
nd/48.40) and
Cameron Kuil (3
rd/48.99) companied each other, going two and three in the men's 400.

From there,
Derek Boekelheide picked up a second place finish in the 800 with a 1:55.20.

Continuing his early-season hot streak,
Noah Huber threw for a distance of 61-07.75 in the weight throw, good enough to pick up second place.

Right behind Huber, Sam Coil picked up a third place finish with a throw of 60:08.25.
Â
In the men's 200, Hilton stood out again, coming in third place with a time of 21.58.

At the tail end of the meet, Jackrabbit distance core
Joseph Minor-Williams,
Chase Cayo (unattached) and
Micah Mather went one, two three in the men's 3000 with marks of 8:33.34, 8:42.73 and 8:43.82, respectively.

Earlier in the day, fellow distance runner
Lukas Nelson put on one of the more exciting performances of the meet. Nelson hung tough with the competition, gutting out a new PR of 4:09.06 in the mile to pick up a first place finish with a mark good enough for the No. 10 spot on the programs all-time list.

To cap off the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational, the Jackrabbits 4x400 relay of
Caleb Bray,
Cameron Kuil,
Mitchel Acker and
Blake Iverson turned in a second place finish with a time of 3:18.91.

Before any events were even contested, the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 2019 Summit League conference champions were named winners during a ring ceremony.
