"We're looking forward to seeing Teresa compete against the best! She has continued to improve every year since she arrived on campus and we think the best is yet to come," said head coach
Casey VanDamme.
The U.S. Golf Association reduced the field to 132 players this year due to health concerns with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Of the 132 spots, 126 consist of exempt players based on a variety of exemption categories.
The U.S. Women's Amateur is a mix of stroke play and match play. After two rounds of stroke play on Aug. 3-4, the top 64 golfers will advance to the match-play portion of the championship.
The round of 64 on Aug. 5 will be followed by rounds of 32 and 16 matches held a day later. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be held on Aug. 7 and 8, respectively, with the championship match contested on Aug. 9. Match-play rounds will air on Golf Channel.
Assistant coach
Maggie Murphy will be traveling to caddy for Toscano. The U.S. Women's Amateur is one of few events where coaches are allowed to do this.
Toscano, SDSU's all-time career leader in career stroke average and top-five finishes, recently competed at the Women's Western Amateur Championship. Additionally, the senior was crowned the South Dakota Golf Association Women's Match Play champion earlier this summer.
After the U.S. Women's Amateur, Toscano will return to Brookings for her fifth season of eligibility with the Jackrabbits. She chose to use the additional year of eligibility the NCAA extended her in March when the pandemic put an early end to what she thought was her final season.
