FORT DODGE, Iowa — South Dakota State dominated the freestyle events and received production up and down its lineup, including a three-victory performance by Emma Bachelder, to sweep a women's swimming double dual from Iowa Central and Barton (Kan.) Saturday afternoon.

The Jackrabbits, who improved to 3-2 on the season, downed Iowa Central by a 180-76 count and outscored Barton, 195-62.

Bachelder, a sophomore from Decorah, Iowa, led SDSU in the sprint freestyle events, winning the 50 freestyle in 24.89 seconds and leading a Jackrabbit sweep of the top three spots in the 100 freestyle with a top time of 54.46 seconds. Emma Walz took second in the 100 with a time of 54.51 seconds and Grace Witherspoon was third in 56.63 seconds. Witherspoon also was third in the 50 free (:25.31).

Bachelder's third individual event title came in the 200 breaststroke, posting a winning time of 2:30.03, with Samantha Frigard right behind in 2:31.06. Frigard led another SDSU sweep for the podium spots in the 100 breaststroke, winning in 1:07.41. Freshmen Annemarie Rehbein (1:09.63) and Morgan Nelson (1:10.44) finished second and third, respectively.

The Jackrabbits made it a sweep of the freestyle events as Elisabeth Timmer won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.58 and Zoey Ahrens was victorious in the two longest races of the day. A sophomore from Bettendorf, Iowa, Ahrens clocked respective winning times of 5:24.15 and 11:02.04 in the 500- and 1,000-yard races. Natalie Cannell was third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:33.80.

For good measure, SDSU closed the meet by claiming the 400 freestyle relay as the quartet of Timmer, Walz, Witherspoon and Kocon teamed for a time of 3:36.99.

Timmer also swam to an event title in the 100 butterfly, 59.60 seconds, and was part of the 400 medley relay foursome with Walz, Bachelder and Katie Pattee that opened the meet with a winning time of 3:45.73.

Kocon turned in an individual title of her own in the 100 backstroke as SDSU took three of the top four spots in the event. Kocon won in 58.52 seconds, while Walz was second in 58.85 and Rori Conners placed fourth in 1:02.95. Kocon placed behind teammate Sianne Downes in the 200 backstroke, with Downes touching the wall first in 2:07.67 and Kocon coming in second in 2:09.23. Conners was again fourth in 2:14.80.
 Leticia Mendes contributed a runner-up time of 2:23.79 in the 200 butterfly.

South Dakota State will be off from competition until returning to action at the USD Quad Dual Nov. 5-6 in Sioux Falls.
