Jackrabbit women's basketball will take on No. 12/16 Iowa State Monday night at Hilton Coliseum. The teams have met just once - last season at Frost Arena with the Jacks upsetting the Cyclones 76-69.
KEY STORYLINES
- After opening the season with a 70-49 win over Green Bay last week, South Dakota State fell 76-71 at Mississippi State Friday.
- Paiton Burckhard joined South Dakota State's 1,000-point club in Friday's game at Mississippi State. She is the third active Jackrabbit to achieve the milestone, joining Myah Selland and Tylee Irwin on the list.
- Freshman Paige Meyer dropped 25 points at Mississippi State and paces the Jacks with 15.5 points per game. She has started both contests and was the first freshman to start an SDSU opener since Myah Selland in 2017-18.
- Meyer's seven 3-point baskets this season ranks t-18th nationally and t-4th among freshmen. She is 7-of-11 from beyond the arc.
- Iowa State is the highest ranked Jackrabbit opponent on the AP Preseason Poll, checking in at No. 12.
- SDSU is ranked sixth on the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 and received two first-place votes.
- SDSU is 14-32 against ranked opponents since the 2006-07 season - 8-5 in Frost Arena, 4-14 on the road and 1-10 at neutral sites. The Jackrabbits picked up three wins over ranked opponents last season, including Iowa State.
- State was picked to finish second in the 2021-22 Summit League Preseason Poll, splitting the first-place votes with South Dakota (20-18).
- Selland was tabbed as the Summit League Preseason Player of the Year and was recently named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watch List along with the Cheryl Miller Small Forward Award Watch List, Naismith Trophy Watch List and Wooden Award Watch List.
- Burckhard, Irwin and Selland were named to the Preseason All-Summit League team.
