South Dakota State will play its fourth consecutive game away from Frost Arena at Northern Iowa Saturday afternoon.
The Jackrabbits are 3-4 on the season after going 1-1 at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Florida over the Thanksgiving weekend. SDSU opened the tournament with a loss to UMass before bouncing back to knock off No. 15 UCLA.
Paige Meyer and Tylee Irwin pace the Jackrabbits with 11.7 and 11.0 PPG, respectively. Paiton Burckhard chips in 8.4 points to go with a team-high 5.1 rebounds. Meyer gives out 4.0 assists per game.
Northern Iowa holds a 4-2 record and most recently beat St. Thomas 102-62. Karlie Rucker scores 13.0 points per game to pace the Panthers. Kam Finley also averages double figures with 12.7 PPG. Grace Boffeli comes off the bench to tally a team-high 8.0 rebounds.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State heads into Saturday afternoon's game with a 3-4 overall record after going 1-1 at the Gulf Coast Showcase. The Jacks fell to UMass 63-81 in Florida before knocking off No.15 UCLA 76-66.
- SDSU will wrap up a four-game road stretch at UNI Saturday. Four straight road games is the Jackrabbits' longest stint away from Frost on this season's schedule.
- The Jackrabbits are looking for their first win on an opponent's home floor as SDSU is 0-3 as the away team in 2021-22.
- The Jacks have had six leading scorers through seven games. Paige Meyer is the only repeat leader (3x) and Lindsey Theuninck and Tori Nelson shared the lead with 11 each against UCLA. Paiton Burckhard, Madysen Vlastuin and Haleigh Timmer have also had a game as the Jacks' high scorer.
- Paige Meyer is the only freshman in NCAA DI averaging at least 11.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest. She leads the team in points and assists and ranks second in rebounding.
- Paiton Burckhard is the Jackrabbits'Â top rebounder with 5.1 per game and is the third highest scorer at 8.4 per contest.
- Myah Selland made her first appearances of the season against UMass and UCLA at the Gulf Coast Showcase. The 2021 Summit League Player of the Year and Honorable Mention All-American averaged 7.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 16 minutes per game.
- Burckhard joined SDSU's 1,000-point club earlier this season. She is the third active Jackrabbit to achieve the milestone, joining Myah Selland and Tylee Irwin on the list. State is one of just a handful of national programs with three or more 1,000 point scorers.
