The South Dakota State track and field team hosts The 2021 Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships Presented by the U.S. Air Force Special Warfare Saturday and Sunday at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.

This is the third time State has hosted the event. The first was in 2017, and the most recent was in 2019 when the men won their first ever Summit League indoor conference championship.

The championships will begin at 9:30 a.m. both days with the multi-events. Field events will start at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday and 11:30 a.m. CT Sunday. Running events will begin at 4 p.m. CT on Saturday and 1 p.m. CT Sunday.Â

SPRINTS
Coby Hilton leads the Summit League in both the 60 and the 200 with times of 6.77 and 21.19, respectively. Just behind Hilton with a 6.88, Daniel Clarke enters the championships ranked fifth in the league. On the women's side, Rich-Ann Archer and Jaiden Boomsma will be chasing each other, with Archer entering with a 7.54 and Boomsma with a 7.58— both good enough for second and third in the league, respectively

HURDLES
Senior Nick Wessels and freshman Pierre Lear enter the weekend fourth and sixth in the rankings with an 8.15 and 8.28 clocking, respectively, both coming from last weekend's SDSU Last Chance. Jaymie O'Connor enters the championships third in the 60m hurdles with a 8.60.

MID-DISTANCE
In the middle distance events, Oksana Covey ranks second with a time of 2:12.16Â and Ellie Friesen sits sixth with a 2:13.77Â in the 800.Tori Glazier is eighth with a 2:15.95. Hannah Whitbread is sixth in the 400 with a 57.45, Lauren Van Dyke is seventh with a 57.51 and Covey is eighth with a 57.69. On the men's side, Reid Pierzinski carries with him an eighth-place ranking and mark of 48.26 in the 400. In the 800, Riley Bauer holds a 1:54.87Â for a 12th-place conference ranking.

DISTANCE
South Dakota State will rely on its deep field of talent for important points in the distance events. Ellie Friesen enters second in the league in the mile with a 4;49.47 mark from the Dakota Quad Classic. Cailee Peterson follows in fourth with a 4:55.99 clocking. In the men's mile, four Jackrabbits rank in the top-10, including Thomas Breuckman (2nd/4:08.27), Daniel Burkhalter (3rd/4:11.22), Ben Olson (4th/4:12.40) and Gabe Peters (9th/4:13.83). In the 3,000, Breuckman will look to cash in on his second-place league ranking where he holds a 8:21.23. Ben Olson comes in fifth with an 8:27.01. Max Selbach ranks sixth with a 8:28.23 and Joseph Minor-Williams rounds out Jacks in the top-10 in the 3,000 with a 8:32.87 and an eighth-place ranking. The women bring three top-10 ranked athletes into the women's 3,000 race. Ellie Friesen (9:44.97) leads the league while Leah Hansen follows in second with a 9:45.88. Sitting at ninth in the conference is Anna Donnay with a 10:04.06. On the men's side, three more Jackrabbits fill top-10 5K marks. Joseph Minor-Williams leads the league with a 14:25.74, Josh Becker sits in third with a 14:44.11 and Alex Auch holds position in sixth with a 15:08.76. For the women, Leah Hansen leads the league with a 16:54.95, Anna Donnay ranks.fourth (17:32.14) and Bridget Henne follows in fifth with an 18:16.26 clocking.

Trent Francom sits tied for seventh in the nation and second in the Summit League with a vault of 18-00.50. He's the only SDSU vaulter to ever reach past 17-feet and is now working his way past 18. Addison Eisenbeisz looks to defend her gold medal from last year's high jump finals. She currently sits fourth with a season-best 5-07.00. She won last year's competition with a PR of 5-8.75. Last year's Summit League Field Newcomer of the Championship, Annie Wendt, took silver in last year's meet with a 19-00.50 in the long jump. Ahead of Wendt, Emma Stewart and Jaiden Boomsma are currently tied for seventh in the conference with season-high marks of 18-04.50. Emily Altenburg currently ranks fifth with a PR of 18-08.50. Daniel Clarke and Tre Manning sit second and third in the conference long jump standings with marks of 23-06.75 and 23-06.25, respectively.

Trevor Begeman will battle a deep shot put field during the weekend's championships. SDSU's school record holder brings a 59-11.25 PR into the meet and Sam Coil follows with a 57-10.50 while Noah Huber sits eighth with a 56-05.75. Sam Coil leads SDSU in the weight throw with a hurl of 67-3.25, Noah Huber sits seventh with 62-05.00 and Austin Eppard is tenth with a 58-04.00. In the throws ring for the women, Madeline Moorhouse and Faith Leiseth are seventh and eighth in the league with shot put throws of 47-0.75 and 46-4.75. Caitlin Thilges is eighth in the conference with a weight throw mark of 58-6.75 and Micayla Ter Wee is ninth with a 57-9.00.

Freshman Katelyn Darnell enters her first championships ranked sixth in the conference in the pentathlon with 3163Â points. Josh Donahoe also ranks sixth with 4319 points, a mark he grabbed at the Bison Open that has him sixth all-time at State.
