SIOUX FALLS – For the second week in a row, South Dakota State's
Teresa Toscano has been selected as Summit League Women's Golfer of the Week, league officials announced Wednesday.
A senior from Huelva, Spain, Toscano won her second consecutive tournament last week, doing it in record-setting fashion at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational in St. George, Utah. She opened with a school-record-low round of 64 (8-under) on March 11 and followed with a second-round score of 67 to finish the 36-hole event with a 13-under total of 131. She finished with 15 birdies in the two rounds and won the event by 13 shots over her nearest competitor, teammate
Mia Seeman.
Her opening-round 64 bettered the previous SDSU record by four strokes and her 36-hole total also set a new Jackrabbit standard. SDSU went on to claim its second consecutive tournament team title, as well, winning by 22 strokes despite the final round being canceled due to inclement weather.
Toscano and the Jackrabbits return to action this weekend at the Bama Beach Bash in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The 54-hole tournament begins Friday and runs through Sunday.
