JACKS SET FOR LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The South Dakota State swimming and diving program makes the trip north to the West Fargo, N.D. for the 2021 Summit League Championships this weekend. The meet will take place over three days at the Hulbert Aquatic Center beginning on Thursday and conclude Sunday. Swim prelims are set to go off at 10:30 each morning with diving prelims at 12:30 and finals at 5:30. A full schedule can be found here. Fans can follow @GoJacksSwim on Twitter for live updates.

South Dakota State has 23 swimmers that rank among the league's top ten in their respective events. Sophomore Elisabeth Timmer holds the third-best league time in the 50 Free (24.09) and 100 freestyle (51.95), sixth-best time in the 100 backstroke (58.24), seventh-best time in the 200 freestyle (1:55.45) and 200 backstroke (2:07.55), and the eighth-best time in the 500 freestyle (5:11.73). Freshman Cayden Christianson ranks first in the league in the 200 IM (1:50.45), fifth in the 200 butterfly (1:56.32), 200 freestyle (1:41.96), 200 breaststroke (2:07.96) and 400 IM (4:18.45), seventh in the 50 backstroke (24.96) and 10th in the 1000 freestyle (10:18.21).
LAST TIME OUT
Freshman Cayden Christianson recorded a pair of school records at the Coyote Invitational over the weekend, adding his name to the top of the all-time lists in both the 100 and 200 IM.
On Friday, Cayden Christanson took over as SDSU's all-time leader in the 200 IM with a mark of 1:50.45 to break Chris Schreier's 1:51.78 that has stood as the time to beat since 2012. On Saturday, Christianson did the same, taking over as SDSU's No. I 100 IM swimmer, clocking a 51.67 to pass Gavin Wheeler's 51.77 from 2020. Marcus Benson took third in the 200 IM with a 1:59.21 and Will Bierschbach finished third in the 100 IM with a 53.46.Â
Christianson also took first in the 200 free with a 1:41.96, second in the 200 breast with a 2:07.96 and swam the first leg of SDSU's third-place winning 200 medley relay.
Alex Kraft took second in the 100 back with a 53.34 and was a member of Christianson's bronze medley relay. Quenten Steffen finished third in the 200 fly with a 2:01.83 and Cody Watkins finished second with a 2:00.08. Damon Venner took second with a 51.70 in the 200 free.Â
On the women's side, Kelsey Kocon, Alyssa Eckstein, Bethany Bespoyasny and Emma Bachedler clocked a 1:48.79 for third in the 200 free relay. Rori Conners won the 500 free with a mark of 5:09.76 and second with a 17:53.97 in the 1650 free. Kristen Davis took third in the 400 IM with a 4:43.72, Sianne Downes took second in the 200 back in a time of 2:08.50 and Kelsey Kocon took second in the 100 IM. Emily Pincus won the 1650 free with a 17:45.18.
Elisabeth Timmer swam to three first-place finishes and two runner-ups. She won the 50 free in a time of 24.21, the 200 back with a 2:07.55 and as a member of the Jacks' winning 200 medley relay. Timmer took second in the 500 free with a 5:11.73 and the 100 back with a 58.24.
Emma Walz recorded a win as a member of the same medley relay and took third on her own in the 200 IM (2:14.47). Grace WItherspoon took third in the 50 free with a 24.52.

Eight different Jackrabbits have taken home athlete of the week honors this season, with Spencer Fritze claiming two and Elisabeth Timmer taking three.
