DES MOINES, Iowa— Coby Hilton is a Drake Relays Champion. On Friday, the Marshall, Minn. native clocked a 21.16 in the men's 200 at Drake Stadium to walk away from the meet a classic Drake Relays watch and flag richer. Behind Hilton, Jake Werner followed with a 22.57 for 11th in the event. The pair as well as Emmanual Phoulom-Smith and Daniel Clarke ran the fourth-fastest qualifying time of the day in the men's 4x100 with a 40.62.

Ellie Friesen improved her own school record in the women's 1500, this time running a 4:18.51 for eighth place, beating her previous 4:21.15.

Reid Pierzinski took second with a PR of 51.62 and SDSU's new school record in the 400 hurdles to qualify for finals. Pierzinski's mark passes Don Larson's longstanding 52.04 set back in 1975.

The Jacks also qualified two hurdlers for finals. In the 110 hurdles, Pierre Lear ran a 14.96 for eighth, and Jaymie O'Connor clocked a 14.07 for sixth in the 100 hurdles.

The women's 4x200 of Madelyn Sanda, Katelyn Darnell, Emily Rystrom and Ashtyn Bertram ran a 1:44.07 for fourth place and the ninth-best mark in program history.

In the women's 200, Rich-Ann Archer and Sanda ran for 13th and 14th with times of 25.68 and 25.82, respectively. Archer led the Jacks in the 100 with a 12.34 fo 13th, Collette Wolfe (16) and Jaiden Boomsma (17) both clocked 12.41, and Sanda ran a 12.61 for 21st place.

Hannah Whitbread finished in 14th place in the women's 400 with a 57.02 clocking, while Lauren Van Dyke was right behind with a 57.12 and 15th place. In the men's race, Reggie Slaba finished 14th with a mark of 51.77.

Trent Francom soared to 17-05.50 for third in the men's pole vault. In the horizontal jumps, Tre Manning matched his PR in the long jump (23-10.00) and took fifth. while Daniel Clarke finished right behind for sixth (23-02.50.).

Trevor Begeman threw shot for sixth with a mark of 60-04.00, and Tyson Jenkins finished ninth with a 57-04.25 marking. in women's shot, Faith Leiseth launched a 45-03-00 for 15th.

The Drake Relays conclude Saturday.
