South Dakota State continues its northern road trip at North Dakota State Saturday night at Scheels Arena in Fargo. The Jacks are 13-8 overall and 9-1 in the Summit League with five straight wins after a 75-49 victory over North Dakota Thursday.Â
Heading into the back end of the season, the Jackrabbits lead the Summit League in scoring offense (78.7 PPG), team field goal percentage (53%) and 3-point percentage (43%), rebounding margin (6.3) and assist average (18.11 APG).
Myah Selland is the Jackrabbits' leading scorer with 11.2 PPG, followed by Paige Meyer and Paiton Burckhard with 10.4 PPG each. Tori Nelson (9.7 PPG) and Tylee Irwin (9.2 PPG) round out the SDSU starting lineup. Kallie Theisen comes off the bench to lead SDSU in rebounding (5.0 RPG) and blocked shots (1.3 BPG).
North Dakota State is 8-12 and 4-6 in the conference following a 78-59 loss to South Dakota Thursday. Heaven Hamling puts up 13.6 points per game to lead the Bison offense. Ryan Cobbins adds 11.6 points to go with a team-high 5.1 rebounds.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State moved to 13-8 on the season and 9-1 in the Summit League with a 75-49 win over North Dakota Thursday night in Grand Forks.
- The Jackrabbits enter Saturday 3rd in the nation in field goal shooting (47.3%) and 7th in 3-point shooting (38.7%).
- SDSU shot better than 64% from the floor in both games last week and set a new program record with a 71% 3-point shooting effort against St. Thomas Thursday night.
- Myah Selland scores 11.2 PPG overall to lead a very balanced SDSU offense. Paige Meyer and Paiton Burckhard add 10.4 PPG each.
- Tori Nelson (62%) and Paige Meyer (60%) hold the top two spots on the Summit's field goal percentage chart in conference games. They and are the only players shooting above 60% in Summit action.
- Four Jackrabbits averaged 10+ points last week - Irwin (15.0), Selland (14.0), Meyer (13.0). Burckhard (10.5).
- All five Jackrabbit starters are averaging 9.5+ points in conference games - Burckhad (11.7), Selland (11.6), Meyer (11.1), Nelson (10.4), Irwin 9.6).
- The Jacks are the only team to have all five starters rank in the top-25 of the Summit scoring chart for conference games.
- The SDSU defense has held opponents to 50 or fewer points in each of the last five contests.
- Paige Meyer is the only freshman in the country averaging 10.5 PPG and 4.0 APG while shooting better than 40% from the field. She is 49% in FG shooting overall (60% in Summit games), 52% from beyond the arc and also contributes 3.7 rebounds, on average.
- Tori Nelson's .561 overall field goal percentage and .618 field goal percentage in conference games ranks first in the Summit League. She has put up 9+ points in 13 of the last 15 contests and has knocked down at least one trey in all but four games this season.
- Myah Selland has scored in every appearance of her career, 101 games, and put up more than 10 points in 73 of those contests. She is averaging 11.8 PPG and 21 minutes in her 14 appearances this season.
- Tylee Irwin continues to climb SDSU's career games chart. Saturday's game at UND will be No. 143 for the 5th-year senior, second on the Jacks' all-time list. Macy Miller is the program's leader with 144 career games played. The NCAA record is 157 career games.
