FARGO, N.D. - South Dakota State women's basketball moved to 14-8 on the season and 10-1 in the Summit League Saturday with a 76-60 win over North Dakota State at the Scheels Center.
Myah Selland paced the Jackrabbit offense with a season-high 23 points, 15 of which came in the third quarter alone, to push the Jacks to their sixth straight win.
Four Jackrabbits contributed double figures on the night. In addition to Selland's 23,
Paige Meyer and
Paiton Burckhard added 12 points apiece while
Tylee Irwin chipped in 10. Burckhard just missed a double-double, finishing with nine boards for the second consecutive game, and tallied two assists and two steals.
Kallie Theisen had five rebounds while Selland and Meyer added four each. Meyer's four helpers was a team high.
Although the Bison got on the scoreboard first with an early 3-pointer, Irwin scored the next five points to spark a 9-0 run for the Jackrabbits. NDSU hit a 3-pointer to pull back within two at 11-9 but was held scoreless over the final 3:49 of the opening period. Theisen sank a pair of free throws and the Jacks got back-to-back layups from Meyer to lead 17-9 at the end of the first 10 minutes.
Meyer notched one of her two steals and found Irwin on the fast break for the first bucket of the second quarter, pushing the SDSU lead to 10. NDSU cut the lead to five on a 3-pointer halfway through the period but the Jacks answered with six straight to go back up 11. The sides traded buckets to end the half and SDSU took a 35-25 advantage into the locker room.
Selland went 5-for-5 from the floor and hit all four free throw attempts during her 15-point third period. The opening three minutes saw Selland score the Jackrabbits' first 10 points to give the Jacks a 45-33 lead. SDSU went up by 17 twice during the period and led by 13 with 10 minutes to play.
A 10-0 Jackrabbit run to start the fourth quarter, with six points coming from Meyer, put the game out of reach for the Bison. SDSU led by as many as 25 points during the fourth before a 9-0 Bison stretch to end the game.
The Jackrabbits dominated the paint, outscoring the Bison 44-12 in that category. SDSU also won the rebounding battle, 34-22, and got 11 second chance points from 9 offensive rebounds. Additionally, State went 50 percent from the field and connected on five 3-pointers while going 11-for-11 from the charity stripe.
The Bison were led by 13 points from Heaven Hamling and 11 from Emily Dietz.
