OMAHA, Neb. - South Dakota State volleyball dropped a 3-1 road match to the Omaha Mavericks Thursday night at Baxter Arena. The Jackrabbits lost the first two sets, won set three, then lost set four (21-15, 22-25, 25-23, 23-25).
The loss was the third straight for the Jackrabbits (10-11, 4-5 Summit) while the Mavericks (13-7, 8-2 Summit) earned their eighth consecutive win. SDSU and UNO are now 1-1 in this season's series.
The Jackrabbits were led by a match-high 20 kills from
Crystal Burk. The fifth-year senior also notched 13 digs, bringing her double-double streak to 11 matches. She has 18 double-doubles on the season.
Anna Nerad also had a solid night. She put down eight kills and had only one error on 16 swings for a .438 hitting percentage. Nerad also contributed a team-high six blocks, which matches her career best.
Raegen Reilly gave out 43 assists for the Jackrabbits, bringing her season total to 859 helpers. That number moves her into fourth place on SDSU's single-season assists chart in the current scoring era. Reilly passed teammate
Carly Wedel's 843 assists from last season as well as Mattison Munger's 845 assists in 2016. Reilly recorded a double-double, her 10th of the season, with 12 digs.

Jadyn Makovicka paced the defense with 14 digs. In addition to Nerad's six blocks, Burk had three and Reilly added two .
Ella Thompson chipped in eight kills,
Katie Van Egdom had six and
Masa Scheierman tacked on four.
Shayla McCormick (19), Marriah Buss (16) and Kali Jurgensmeier (11) all had double-digit kills for Omaha. Mariah Murdie took part in eight blocks, Sami Clarkson gave out 34 assists and Jaiden Centeno had 19 digs.
Neither side was able to gain much of an advantage in the opening set until a 6-1 stretch by Omaha resulted in an SDSU timeout at 14-10. The Jacks went on a run of their own out of the break, using three Omaha errors and kills from Burk and Thompson to tie the set again at 15 all. The Mackericks regained the lead for good at 17-16 and a kill by Buss gave the home team the 25-21 win.
The Jacks jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second frame behind a trio of UNO errors, an ace from
Elyse Winter and a kill each by Burk and Scheierman. UNO stormed back with a 10-1 run to force an SDSU timeout at 10-7 in favor of the Mavericks. Burk tallied back-to-back kills to bring SDSU back within one at 10-9, then put down another kill to tie the set at 11. Nerad and Scheierman teamed up on a block to put the Jacks up three at 15-12. The Mavericks came back with a run capped by a service ace to lead 20-17 and later ended the set, 25-22, with a pair of blocks.
Omaha opened the third set with a 7-4 lead, then the Jackrabbits closed the gap with two Burk kills to even the score at 8-8. Nerad and Thompson put down back-to-back kills and the Jacks led 15-13 before four straight points for Omaha. Down 17-18, Burk was responsible for five kills in the final push and the Jacks managed to extend the match with a 25-23 victory.
The final set saw 14 ties as both teams battled until the very end. Omaha took a three-point lead, the largest of the set, at 18-15 before a pair of kills and a service ace by the Jacks brought the set back to an 18-18 tie. A Burk kill gave SDSU a 23-22 edge but the Mavericks finished off the match with three straight points.
NOTES
This is the third straight match SDSU has lost, all by 3-1 scores. The Jacks are 3-5 in four-set matches this season.
