South Dakota State (2-1) will take part in the second annual Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in Paradise Island, Bahamas November 19-21.
The Jacks open the tournament against a familiar foe in UCLA, who the team will have played three times in the last 12 months. Depending on the result of the UCLA game, the Jacks will move on to play either the winner or loser of Tennessee vs. Rutgers in the
bracket-style tournament.
The Battle 4 Atlantis teams enter the week a combined 19-5. Three teams are ranked in the most recent AP and WBCA polls and three more are receiving votes.
Key Storylines
- South Dakota State enters the Battle 4 Atlantis at 2-1 after a season-opening loss to then-No. 21 Creighton (78-69) followed by wins over Lehigh (91-73) and Mississippi State (63-62). All three games leading up to the tournament have been played at home in Frost Arena, so this is the first road trip of the year for the Jacks.
- SDSU opens the tournament against UCLA, who the Jacks are taking on for the third time in the last 12 months. SDSU won both meetings last season - first beating the then-No. 15 Bruins 76-66 at the Gulf Coast Showcase, then besting them again in the WNIT semifinal 62-59 at Frost Arena.
- Myah Selland is one of four active Division I players with more than 1,500 career points, 600 rebounds and 300 assists (as reported by ESPN's Charlie Creme per ESPN Stats & Information research).
- Myah Selland's 1,660 career points ranks 18th among active players in the country, as of Friday.
- Myah Selland is averaging 19.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game this season, all team highs. Her 3.3 assists per game ranks second.
- Haleigh Timmer is also averaging double digits - an even 10.0 points per contest. She has been consistent through the first three games, scoring 10 against Creighton, nine against Lehigh and 11 against Mississippi State.
- Kallie Theisen averages 6.3 rebounds and 9.7 points and per content, ranking second and third on the team, respectively.
- Dru Gylten dished six assists in 21 minutes of action Monday against Mississippi State.
