South Dakota State makes the second leg of its two-game road swing Saturday to St. Paul, Minnesota to take on St. Thomas.Â
The Jackrabbits are 18-8 on the season and riding a 10-game win streak into Saturday afternoon. SDSUÂ sits tied for first place in the conference standings with three games remaining.
St. Thomas is 6-19 on the year and 3-12 in the Summit in its first year as a DI program. The Tommies entered the weekend off a three-game road stretch, on which they went 0-3 against North Dakota, North Dakota State and Kansas City. The Tommies lost 73-46 to South Dakota Thursday night.Â
The team paced by Erin Norling and Jade Hill, who both score 13 points per contest for the Tommies. Norling is also the Tommies' leader on the glass, grabbing 4.4 rebounds per game while Hill leads the team with 4.1 assists, on average.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State won its 10th straight game Thursday night, an 84-54 victory or Western Illinois in Macomb. The Jackrabbits are 18-8 on the season and 14-1 in the Summit League with three games remaining.
- Myah Selland was named the Summit League Player of the Week for her role in last week's wins. She averaged 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.5 blocks, including a 25 points effort Thursday and a near triple-double Saturday (13 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists).
- The Jackrabbits are receiving votes in the USA Today / WBCA Top-25 Poll this week and are up to 9th in the College Insider Mid-Major Top-25.
- Myah Selland scores 12.8 PPG overall to lead a very balanced SDSU offense. She is joined in double figures by Paige Meyer (11.0), Paiton Burckhard (10.4) and Tori Nelson (10.1).
- SDSU remains ranked second in the nation in field goal shooting (47.8%) and sixth in 3-point shooting (38.0%). Both clips lead the Summit League.
- As of Thursday, all five Jackrabbit starters are averaging 9+ points in conference games - Selland (13.1), Meyer (11.8), Burckhard (11.6), Nelson (10.4), (Irwin 9.4).
- Paige Meyer (61.5%) and Tori Nelson (60.0%) hold the No. 1 and 2 spots on the Summit's field goal percentage chart in conference games. They are the only two shooting 60% or higher.
- Paige Meyer is the only freshman in the country averaging 10+ PPG and 4+ APG while shooting better than 50% from the field.
- Tori Nelson's consistency has been a key factor for the Jacks' offense. The sophomore is 60% from the field in Summit League games and has scored 9+ points in all but three conference games.
- Myah Selland has scored in every appearance of her career, 106 games, and put up more than 10 points in 77 of those contests. She ranks 15th on the Jacks' all-time scoring chart with 1,404 career points.
- Tylee Irwin, Myah Selland and Paiton Burckhard have all scored more than 1,000 career points and tallied more than 500 career rebounds for South Dakota State. SDSU is one of just a handful of programs nationally with three or more active players to record 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.
- State was picked to finish second in the 2021-22 Summit League Preseason Poll, splitting the first-place votes with South Dakota (20-18).
