OMAHA, Neb. - South Dakota State wrapped up its series in Omaha Saturday with a 6-0 shutout win over the Mavericks at Connie Claussen Field. The Jacks open the Summit League season 2-1 and move to 21-8 overall.
A four-run seventh frame by the Jackrabbits put the game put of reach for Omaha. Already leading 2-0, the Jacks used a two-RBI double and two-RBI homer to push the lead to six runs.
With
Emma Osmundson and
Peyton Daugherty on base in the seventh,
Rozelyn Carrillo doubled to plate the runners. The runs were followed by a
Lindsey Culver homer on the next at bat, a two-RBI shot, for the 6-0 final.
Culver also got the scoring started in the third inning, sending a solo homer to left field for the 1-0 Jackrabbit lead.
Mia Jarecki homered for the second time in as many appearances to double the lead in the sixth inning.
Defensively, SDSU put the Mavericks down in order in the first and third innings.
Grace Glanzer and
Tori Kniesche combined for seven strikeouts and four hits allowed. Glanzer picked up the win to move to 10-3 on the season while Kniesche gets her second save of the year.
Kniesche entered the game with two outs in the fifth frame and needed just one pitch to finish off the Mavericks. Kniesche found herself in a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the sixth inning but worked her way out with two strikeouts and a ground out to end the inning.
Culver and
Cylie Halvorson recorded two hits each. Culver had three RBIs, Carrillo had two and Jarecki had one.
