South Dakota State's
Tylee Irwin,
Tori Nelson and
Myah Selland were named to the Summit League's Academic All-League Team Wednesday.
In total, seven student-athletes were selected to the team as voted on by the league's faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors. The student-athletes were voted on based on their academic and athletic performances throughout the 2021-22 season.
Selland, a two-time academic all-league honoree, holds a 3.97 GPA and is a double major in exercise science and community and public health. Her work in the classroom earned her CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, landing a spot on the second team for the second straight season. Selland was named to the All-Summit League first team after averaging almost 14.3 ppg and 5.5 rpg to lead the Jackrabbits to a share of the Summit League regular season title. She capped off her junior campaign by being named the WNIT MVP after helping guide the Jacks to a WNIT championship trophy.
Â
Irwin carries a 3.83 GPA in human biology/pre-chiropractic. She was selected to the league's All-Defensive team and the All-Summit League honorable mention squad. On the offensive end, she averaged 9.1 ppg while defensively she hauled down 3.1 rpg and was typically handed the opponent's toughest defensive assignment. Irwin started every game for the Jackrabbits and helped them to a 17-1 regular season record and a share of the regular season title.
Â
Nelson owns a 4.0 GPA as she works towards a double major in exercise science/pre-physical therapy and community and public health. She was selected to the All-Summit League honorable mention team after averaging more than 10 ppg overall and almost 12 ppg during the conference season. Nelson was the second-leading scorer in conference games and started every game for the Jacks.
Â
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of his team's competitions.
Â
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's ten institutions and voting is conducted by both the SIDs and facility athletic representatives (FARs). The team is made up of the five student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
