South Dakota State volleyball enters the Summit League season this week with matches against Denver and Omaha at Frost Arena. The Jacks take on the Pioneers Thursday and the Mavericks Saturday as SDSU celebrates the 50th anniversary of Title IX.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State enters the Summit League season at 6-6 following a tough 0-3 weekend at the Hawkeye Invitational.
- Thursday is the first meeting between the Jacks and the Pioneers since SDSU upset Denver 3-2 in the opening round of the 2021 Summit League tournament.
- Crystal Burk continues to be a dominant offensive force for the Jackrabbits. She ranks sixth in the nation with 210 total kills this season and 27th in kills per set (4.20).
- Crystal Burk moved into eighth place on SDSU's career kills chart over the weekend. She has 1,279 kills in her career.
- Crystal Burk is one of only six Jackrabbits in program history to record more than 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
- The Jackrabbit offesnse ranks second in the Summit League and 35th in the nation in total team kills (619).
- Jadyn Makovicka reached the 1,000 digs milestone while the team was at the Iowa tournament. Between her time at Rockhurst and South Dakota State, she sits at 1,015 career digs.
- Raegen Reilly has given out 480 total assists on the season, ranking second in the Summit League and 16th in the country.
- Crystal Burk also ranks in the top-15 nationally in total points (229, 11th) and total attacks (558, 15th).
- Ella Thompson holds a .307 attack rate this year, ranking fourth in the Summit.
- Sydney Andrews' 1.09 blocks per set ranks sixth in the conference.
- Five starters from 2021 return to the squad in 2022, including fifth-year seniors Crystal Burk and Sydney Andrews.
