BROOKINGS, SD – The South Dakota State track and field team will start the new year with the Bison Team Cup in Fargo, ND at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track and Field Facility on Saturday.

Only three teams will be competing in the scored team meet: North Dakota State, North Dakota and South Dakota State. The winning men's and women's teams will earn the Bison Team Cup trophies.

Field events are set to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday and the running events will being at 2:30 p.m. on the track.

LAST TIME OUT: The South Dakota State University men's track and field team took first place and the women finished second at the SDSU Holiday Invitational and Multi following the final day of competition.

Two new school records highlight the weekend for the Jackrabbits, starting with Pierre Lear, who broke his own record in the 60-meter hurdles. Lear clocked a blistering time of 7.94 seconds in the finals to win the event while rewriting his name in school history

Cerington Jones also made history with her first place finish in the women's 300-meter dash. She is now atop the record books after clocking a 39.39 in the event.

In the same event, SDSU claimed the top six spots. Behind Jones was Jenna Johnson in second place with a personal-best time of 40.27 that is now third in the record books as Erika Kuntz took third in 40.95 for a PR and seventh all-time. Hannah Whitbread (4th, 41.86), Abby Hughes (5^th, 42.72, PR) and Brielle Ruen (6^th, 43.04, PR) rounded out the remaining event finishers.

Additionally on the women's side of competition, Brielle Dixon was crowned champion of the 60-meter hurdles after crossing the finish line in 8.56 seconds. Her time is a new personal best and is now the second best time on record. Savannah Risseeuw also competed in the event finals where she took seventh place in 9.33 seconds.

Ashtyn Bertram finished in sixth place in the 60-meter dash finals in 7.87 seconds, which tied her PR.

In the 200-meter dash, Bertram also took fifth place with a time of 25.82 as newcomer Jessica Boekelheide claimed eighth in a personal-best time of 26.41. Dixon earned a PR with her time of 26.78, which placed her in 14^th, while Cora Shull finished 24^th in 27.40 seconds for a PR.

Lauren Van Dyke and Tori Glazier went 1-2 in the 600-meter run, clocking a 1:32.94 for first and a 1:36.75 for second, respectively, as Harley Fischer claimed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.74.

The women's 4x400-meter relay A squad took second place with a time of 3:51.57 while the B squad finished fourth in 4:06.40.

As for field events, Jaiden Boomsma took home the crown in the long jump with a leap of 18-08.50, a new indoor PR that ties her for eighth all-time. Jordan Stoddard finished in fourth in the final with her jump of 17-08.00 for a PR in her debut as Layne Kirkendoll placed seventh with a distance of 17-03.25 for a PR.

Camryn Brinkman represented SDSU in the finals of the triple jump with a distance of 34-10.50, which earned her eighth place.

Wendy van Nes took sixth place in the pole vault after clearing 11-05.75. Greta Johnson tied for 10^th in the event with a height of 10-00.25 and Nora Peterson tied for 15^th with 9-00.25 for a PR.

Madison Kizer finished as runner-up in the high jump after clearing 5-09.00, which is a new personal best and third best all time. Kirkendoll took fourth place with a personal-best height of 5-03.00, Taylor Jochum was fifth with a height of 5-03.00 for a PR and Claire Galvin cleared a personal-best 5-01.00 for eighth place.

Catylynn Duff lead the way for the Jacks in the women's weight throw, taking sixth place in her Jackrabbit debut with a throw of 56-08.50. Mildred Young finished in 12^th with a 50-02.50 for a PR, Marianne Robin was 15^th with a distance of 48-06.00 and Kirsten Kilker threw a 36-07.50 for 34^th place and a PR.

Faith Leiseth won the shot put with her throw of 46-07.50 while Meghan Hettinga took second with a 44-05.25. Duff claimed sixth with her distance of 43-00.25 and Amanda Pettersson threw a personal-best 42-10.25, which tied her for seventh. Paige Haakenson (16^th, 38-10.25), Kilker (21^st, 38-00.25, PR) and Kaitlynn Bot (23^rd, 37-07.75) rounded out the SDSU finishers.

In the women's pentathlon, Katelyn Darnell led the way for SDSU with 3261 points for fourth place. Ciara Benson earned herself a PR with 3112 points for sixth place while Robyn Dayton took 13^th with a personal-best 2706 points in her Jackrabbit debut.

In the women's discus, four Jackrabbits competed in the finals and it was Faith Leiseth who led the way for SDSU. She placed second with a throw of 147-06.25 while Catylynn Duff scored a PR with her distance of 146-00.00 for third place.

True Thorne finished in fifth place with a throw of 135-11.25 and Milee Young took sixth with a 132-09.50.

On the men's side, Daniel Burkhalter won the men's mile run with a personal-best time of 4:05.38, which is a new meet record and fourth best in school history.

Andrew Moeller finished as runner-up in the 800-meter run, clocking a 1:56.11 for a PR.

Reid Pierzinski won the 600-meter run with his personal best time of 1:19.90, while Joey Anders took sixth in 1:24.20 for a PR and Max Ceplecha finished seventh in 1:24.43.

Reggie Slaba was champion of the 400-meter dash, where he took first place in 49.64 seconds for a PR, as Kudra Nzibariza took fifth place in the 300-meter dash with a time of 36.04 for a new personal best.

Jake Werner took second place in the 200-meter dash in a quick 21.89 seconds while Jared Wipf finished fourth in 22.25 seconds. Evan Henderson was sixth in 22.55 seconds, Drew Olson claimed 14^th in 23.07 seconds and Caden Plasier grabbed 23^rd in a personal-best 23.56 seconds.

Wipf led the way for SDSU in the 60-meter dash finals, where he took third place in 6.90 seconds. Henderson placed fifth in a personal-best 6.95 seconds as Werner grabbed sixth in 7.00 seconds.

The men's 4x400-meter relay A squad narrowly finished in second place in 3:17.36 and the B squad took fourth with a time of 3:21.78.

Through four scored events of the heptathlon, Ryan Benson sits in fourth place with 2710 points white Tanner Lunders is in fifth with 2456 points.

Tre Manning claimed runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 22-09.75 and Sam Rohlfs, in his Jackrabbit debut, took fifth with a jump of 21-07.25 for a PR.

Tristen Hanna took third place in the triple jump with a distance of 45-08.00 as Max Keefer jumped a 44-02.75 for sixth place and a PR.

Conner Powers took 11^th in the high jump with a clearance of 6-02.75 while Jessie Cauble finished in 14^th with a height of 6-01.00 for a PR.

Matthew Katz was runner-up in the pole vault with a jump of 15-09.00. Jaden Peter took fourth with a 15-03.25 as Ryan Karajanis finished fifth with a height of 15-03.25 for a PR in his Jackrabbit debut.

SDSU placed four in the top six on the men's shot put, leading with Dominick Etherington in second place with a throw of 57-08.25. Dawson Schroeder was fourth with a 51-10.50, Wyatt Seagren grabbed a PR with his throw of 51-02.25 for fifth place and a PR and Brogan Seier was sixth with a 49-05.75.

Hunter Wallster claimed second place in the weight throw with a distance of 59-08.50 for a PR and the sixth best mark all-time as Schroeder took third with a 59-00.25 for a PR and the eighth best mark all-time. Etherington (6^th, 56-06.75) and Calob Jones (7^th, 56-06.50) also placed in the top 10.

As for the men's discus, Wyatt Seagren claimed third place with his personal best of 161-10.25 and Ethan Fischer made his Jackrabbit debut with a 159-00.25 for fourth place and a PR.

In the men's heptathlon, newcomer Ryan Benson finished with 4626 points, which is a new personal best and the seventh best mark in school history. Tanner Lunders also made his first appearance as a Jackrabbit and scored 4047 points for fifth place.

SDSU's men take first place out of 13 teams in the final standings with 171 points. South Dakota took second with 134.5 points and Dordt grabbed third with 67.5 points.

The women were second out of 11 teams in the final scores with 156.5 points as South Dakota finished in first with 180 points. Dordt rounded out the top three with 49 points

MEN PICKED FIRST, WOMEN THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL: The Jackrabbit men were picked to win the Summit League again this year while the women were placed third in the preseason indoor track and field poll announced by Summit League officials Wednesday.
