STATE HEADS TO MONDAY MEET AT USD

BROOKINGS, SD – Following a weekend of competition deterred by weather, the South Dakota State track and field teams will head to Vermillion for the Monday Meet on April 24 at the Lillibridge Track Complex.
Field events are scheduled to begin on Monday at 3 p.m. with track events kicking off at 3:30 p.m. Athletes from South Dakota, Sioux Falls, Dakota State and Dordt will all be in attendance at the meet.
LAST TIME OUT: The South Dakota State track and field teams capped off a successful weekend of roads meets with two new school records and several personal bests at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Saturday.
Cerington Jones kicked the day off by shattering the previous 400-meter dash record with her new personal best time of 53.91 to win her heat and take seventh place overall in the event.
Reid Pierzinski then went on to break his own men's 400-meter hurdle record in a personal best 50.81 seconds to take second place.
Pierre Lear took second place overall in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.78 while in the women's shot put, Faith Leiseth threw a 44-06.00 to finish in ninth place.
During the late night running events, Caitlin Bright took 34th with a personal best time of 4:41.10 in the Open B section of the 15000-meter run while Mya Kizer finished 37th with a 4:42.01 for a PR out of 156 athletes.
Grace Waage led the way for SDSU in the Open A section, clocking a personal best 4:33.75 for 77th place. Claire Beckman (4:34.14) finished 80th, Nicole Greyer (4:34.42, PR) was 86th, Emma Ecker ran a personal best 4:40.83 for 153rd and Tori Glazier (4:44.38) rounded out the finishers in 168th.
Daniel Burkhalter ran a 3:48.51 in the men's invite 1500-meter run for 11th in his heat and 137th overall.
In the Open A section of the same race, all three Jackrabbits clocked new personal bests. Tom Breuckman finished 23rd in 3:47.98, Carter Knaus came 27th with a time of 3:45.26 and Eli Salisbury ran a 3:52.55 for 123rd.
REGIONAL RANKINGS: The fourth Division I Track and Field rankings of the season determined by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association were announced earlier this week with the Jackrabbits men falling one spot to 13th place and the women dropping one spot to 22nd in the Midwest Region.
SDSU MEN AND WOMEN PICKED THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL: The South Dakota State men's and women's track and field teams were each selected to finish third in the Summit League for the incoming outdoor season.

The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships are set for May 11-13 in Fargo, North Dakota.
ATHLETES TO WATCH: Four Jackrabbits—two men and two women—were recognized as Summit League Athletes to Watch.

- Placed 11th in the hammer throw at the 2022 League outdoor championships with a career-best throw of 179-7 (54.75m)
- Finished seventh in the shot put at the League outdoor championships with a mark of 57-06.25 (17.53m)
- Finished in the top five of the shot put in four meets last season
Sr | Sprints/Hurdles | Nisswa, Minn.
- Defended his 400m hurdle crown at the 2022 League outdoor championships with a time of 50.91, breaking the previous record (51.27) set back in 1990
- Ran a leg of the 4x100m relay that took second at the League outdoor championships with a time of 40.57
- Was a member of the 4x400m relay squad that took fifth at the League outdoor championships with a time of 3:21.55

- Took gold at the 2022 League outdoor championships in the 5,000m (16:54.60) and the 10,000m (35:37.00)
- Clocked a career-best 5,000m time of 16:16.46 at the Bryan Clay Invitational
- Won the 10,000m at the Drake Relays in a time of 34:49.31

- Took fourth at the 2022 League outdoor meet in the shot put with a toss of 47-3 (14.40m)
- Finished fourth at the League outdoor championships in the discus with a mark of 152-9 (46.57m)
- Threw a school record distance of 174-1 (53.07m) in the discus at the South Dakota Challenge
