VERMILLION, SD – The South Dakota State University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the USD Early Bird with multiple personal bests and even a new school record at the Lillibridge Track Complex on Saturday.
Pierre Lear once again broke his own record in the 110-meter hurdles after clocking a 13.76 to take first place in the event prelims. He then went on to run the exact same time in the finals and took first overall.
Four Jackrabbits placed in the top 25 of the men's 100-meter dash, led by Jared Wipf's third place finish in 10.38 seconds. Evan Henderson was ninth in 10.49 seconds, Manny Phoulom-Smith clocked a 10.64 for 12th place and Reggie Slaba was 18th with a 10.71.
That success also carried over into the 200-meter where four runners placed in the top 25. Phoulom-Smith ran a 21.49 for fifth place, Thailan Hallman came ninth in 21.60, Slaba finished 13th in a personal best 21.73 and Henderson clocked a 21.88 for a PR and 18th place.
Kudra Nzibariza finished fifth in his heat of the 400-meter dash (20th overall) in 51.12 as AJ Josephson took fourth in his heat (42nd overall) with a 53.03.
Tyler O'Neill represented SDSU in the men's 800-meter run, clocking a 2:03.64 for a 20th place finish.
Bowen McConville threw a personal best 154-02.50 for 11th place in the javelin while Matthew Katz took 12th with a 151-07.00.
Wyatt Seagren and Noah Jessup each earned new personal bests in the discus with marks of 154-03.75 and 151-05.75, respectively.
Tre Manning finished in seventh place of the long jump finals with his mark of 22-11.25 while Max Keefer claimed 12th in the triple with a distance of 43-09.75.
Connor Powers cleared 6-06.75 in the men's high jump to finish tied for eighth place while in the pole vault, Katz cleared 16-05.25 for third place and Jaden Peters took fifth with a 16-01.50
Ryan Benson completed his first decathlon in fifth place with 6137 points, which is now ninth in school history. He earned new personal bests in the discus (101-09.25) and 1500-meter run (4:39.72).
Of the 70 competitors in the women's 100-meter dash, four Jackrabbits finished in the top 25. Jaiden Boomsma clocked an 11.92 for seventh place, Cerington Jones took 11th place in 12.03, Jenna Johnson ran a 12.20 for 16th place and Brielle Dixon finished 25th in 12.49 seconds.
Jones then led the way for SDSU in the 200-meter dash, taking fifth place in 24.09 seconds. Also finishing in the top 25 was Johnson in seventh with a personal best 23.49 and Emily Rystrom in 23rd place in a personal best 25.63 seconds.
Savannah Risseeuw qualified for the women's 100-meter hurdle finals after clocking a 14.26 to win her heat and finished third overall with a 13.99.
Harley Fischer ran a personal best 1:00.81 in the 400-meter dash to win her heat and take 19th place overall.
Madison Kizer tied for second in the high jump with a height of 5-05.00 while Jordan Stoddard finished fifth with a 5-05.00. Layne Kirkendoll and Taylor Jochum tied for ninth with a 5-03.00 and Hadley Carlson tied for 13th with a clearance of 5-01.00.
In the finals of the long jump, Stoddard took fifth place with a personal best mark of 18-09.25 while Annie Wendt was eighth with an 18-05.75.
Wendt then represented the Jacks in the finals of the triple jump with her distance of 38-05.00 while Emma Smith marked a personal best 36-02.00.
Faith Leiseth qualified for the finals of the shot put and ended up in third place overall with her mark of 49-00.25.
Marianne Robin and Mildred Young each earned personal bests in the hammer throw with marks of 162-08.50 and 154-08.00, respectively.
Lizzy Gillingham finished the heptathlon in sixth place with a personal best 4439 points while Robyn Dayton took 16th with a personal best 3285 points.
Finally, the women's 4x400-meter relay team clocked a 3:59.16 for second place overall.
UP NEXT: SDSU will hit the road for several meets in California and Iowa from April 13 to 15.
