VERMILLION — South Dakota State swimmers won 10 event titles and set three venue records to close out the dual season Saturday with a 175-119 victory over South Dakota at the DakotaDome Pool.
The Jackrabbits improved to 10-4 in head-to-head competition this season
Freshman Cody Vertin won three event titles for the second dual in a row, starting with a victory in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 3.23 seconds. A Brookings native, Vertin added wins in the second half of the dual in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.49) and 200 individual medley (2:09.07). Vertin's 200 breaststroke time also set a DakotaDome Pool record in what was the final scheduled competition in the facility's history.
Sam Johnson also established a pool record in the 200 freestyle with a winning time of 1:53.63 and added a second event title in the 100 freestyle by touching the wall first in 51.87 seconds.
Jack Ellison was another two-time winner for the Jackrabbits in the distance events, posting top times in both the 400 (4:08.06) and 800 (8:38.41) freestyle races.
Eric Anderson made it an SDSU sweep in the freestyle events by winning the 50-meter race in 23.18 seconds.
Denilson Cyprianos turned in the third and final pool-record performance by notching a winning time of 2:02.10 in the 200 back. Cyprianos also placed second in the 200 freestyle in 1:55.60.
Braxton McGrath rounded out the list of event winners for the Jackrabbits with a victory in the 200 butterfly. McGrath led an SDSU sweep of the top three spots in the event with a time of 2:06.63, followed by Austin Smith (2:09.01) and Bryan Wong (2:10.02).

The Jackrabbits return to competition Feb. 2-3 at the Coyote Invite. The two-day meet will be held at the Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls.
