BROOKINGS, SD – A total of 14 event wins and a new school record highlighted a dominant performance by South Dakota State in the final home track meet of the season at the SDSU Last Chance on Friday.
Claire Beckman did both, winning the women's 600-meter run in 1:32.32 to also break the SDSU school record for the event. She led a foursome of Jackrabbits to top five finishes, with
Reese Luze (1:35.70, PR) in third with her 10th all-time finish,
Harley Fischer (1:35.83) in fourth and
Hannah Spoden (1:36.38, PR) in fifth.
Other event wins include
Savannah Risseeuw's 60-meter hurdle performance, where she took the crown in 8.61 seconds.
Jaiden Boomsma won the 60-meter dash, clocking a 7.52 in the event finals. She was followed behind by
Rich-Ann Archer (7.81, third), Lizzy Gillingham (7.91, fifth) and
Maggie Madsen (7.93, seventh).
Caitlin Bright won the mile in 4:59.77 as
Emma Gonzalez clocked a personal best of 5:04.99 for fourth.
Jenna Soine (5:05.58, PR) was fifth,
Kadense Dooley (5:11.21, PR) came eighth and
Nina Dawson (5:13.09, PR) took ninth.
Madison Kizer cleared 5-05.00 to win the women's high jump as
Hadley Carlson (5-03.00) finished second and
Taylor Jochum (4-11.25) took ninth.
Laci Leverty won the pole vault with her new personal best of 12-06.00, which is now tied for third all-time at SDSU.
Kiah Boetel also took sixth with a 10-00.50.
Milee Young threw a 43-01.00 to win the women's shot put as
Josie Curry (42-01.50) finished third and
Kaitlynn Bot (40-02.25) was seventh.
Carter Toews took first overall in the 200-meter dash with his time of 22.11, followed behind by
Hudson Schroeder (22.23, PR, second) and
Andrew Law (22.86, PR, seventh)
James Pierce won the 400-meter dash with a 48.64—a new personal best and the seventh-fastest mark all-time in the event. Also finishing in the top 10 were
Reggie Slaba (48.85, second),
Thailan Hallman (49.11, third),
Kudra Nzibariza (49.38, fifth) and
Jeremiah Donahoe (50.11, sixth).
Andrew Moeller won the men's 600-meter run with his personal-best clocking a 1:21.54 for the top spot as
Sam Castle's time of 1:55.41 pushed him to victory in the 800-meter run.
Ethan Fischer had an all-time performance in the weight throw, winning the event with a personal best of 61-08.50. He now sits eighth all-time at SDSU.
Hunter Wallster (59-04.75) was second in the event and
Caiden Fredrick (57-05.00) was fourth.
Matt Katz won the men's pole vault with a height of 16-01.00 and
Tristen Hanna won the triple jump with a 45-05.00.
Additional top performances include
Carter Johnson, who claimed fourth in the 60-meter hurdle finals with an 8.46 while
Ben Morningstar (8.55, PR) took sixth,
Aiden Voss (8.60, PR) was seventh and
Gunnar Gunderson (8.66) finished eighth.
Hudson Schroeder was runner-up in the 60-meter dash finals, tying his personal best in 7.01 seconds.
Caden Plasier tied his PR of 7.16 for fifth, Gunderson came sixth in 7.18 and
Isaac Flanegan was seventh in 7.25.
Tyler O'Neill won 1000-meter run with a clocking of 2:36.36 for sixth place.
Five Jackrabbits finished in the top 10 of the men's mile, led by
Daniel Burkhalter's time of 4:10.90 for second place.
Jackson Dutcher (4:11.90, PR) took third,
Nathan Notgrass (4:12.09, PR) was fourth,
Josh Becker (4:13.24) crossed sixth and O'Neill (4:24.61, PR) was 10
th.
In the 3000-meter run,
Carson Noecker led the way with an 8:30.13 for second place and a PR.
Cormick Logue was third with a personal-best 8:38.01 and
Will Harder came 10
th in 8:59.31.
Connor Powers claimed runner-up in the high jump with an indoor PR of 6-08.00 as
Carson Kirwan cleared a PR-tying 6-04.75 for third.
Schroeder also found success in field events, this time finishing fourth in the long jump finals with a mark of 21-03.50.
Caiden Fredrick was runner-up in the shot put with his mark of 52-00.75 with
Lee Reiser (50-00.50) taking fourth and
Ryan Hackbart (45-03.50) finishing ninth.
Rich-Ann Archer took second in the 200-meter dash with a 25.46 as
Jessica Boekelheide claimed fifth in 25.86.
Emily Rystrom was the overall runner-up in the women's 400-meter dash with her personal-best time of 58.29 as Abby Hughes clocked a 59.38 for fourth place and a new PR.
Emily Plucker took fourth in the 800-meter run with her personal-best time of 2:22.78 while
Selma Dingmann finished close behind in fifth with a 2:23.39 for a new PR.
Hannah Neusch clocked an 11:14.27 for eighth place in the 3000-meter run.
Apryl Adderley took third in the women's long jump finals with a leap of 16-10.50 as
Robyn Dayton finished sixth with a 16-01.75.
Emma Smith garnered a mark of 36-02.75 to claim third in the triple jump finals while
Camryn Brinkman was fifth with a 35-08.00 and Adderley came seventh with a mark of 34-09.75.
In the weight throw finals, Young claimed fifth place with a 54-08.00 and Curry finished eighth with a mark of 51-03.75.
UP NEXT: The 2024 Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place February 23 and 24 at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track and Field Facility in Fargo.
