SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The South Dakota State volleyball team was picked to finish sixth in the Summit League preseason poll released by the conference office Tuesday.
Sydni Schetnan and
Sylvie Zgonc were named players to watch.
Schetnan, a redshirt junior, played in 107 sets across 29 matches a season ago. She recorded 203 kills, the third most on the team, and posted a team-best .251 attack percentage. Schetnan also paced the squad in total blocks and blocks per set in 2023.
Zgonc, a sophomore, was named to the Summit League First Team and was honored as the Summit League Freshman of the Year in 2023. She averaged 3.5 kills per set, ranking first on the team and fourth in the conference. Zgonc also tallied 2.52 digs per set, second on the team only to the SDSU libero in that category.
Omaha was selected to take home the Summit League volleyball regular season title, garnering 64 points and eight first-place votes in the poll. Omaha held a thirteen-point advantage over Denver to claim the top spot in the poll. The Pioneers edged South Dakota for the runner-up spot, finishing with 51 points.Â
The Jackrabbits kick off the 2024 season at the Georgia State Invitational Friday and Saturday in Atlanta.
