South Dakota State begins its three-game stretch of road matches to close out the regular season on Saturday. The Jackrabbits are slated to face South Dakota, as a part of the Interstate Series presented by First Interstate Bank, at 3 p.m. in Vermillion at First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex.Â
SDSU, which saw its 11-match unbeaten streak ended at Denver on Thursday, rebounded with a 3-1 victory over Omaha on Sunday. The Jackrabbits trailed 1-0 at halftime but rallied to score three goals in the second half.
Jenna Maloy scored a 65th minute goal and
Emma Brezenski recorded her first-career brace.
The Jackrabbits are 9-2-4 overall and sit third in the conference standings with a 3-1-1 record (10 points).
SDSU and South Dakota clash for the first time since their thrilling last meeting. The Coyotes and Jacks squared off in the No. 3-6 matchup of the 2024 Summit League tournament. South Dakota scored a 54th minute goal and led for a majority of the second half. SDSU's
Katherine Jones tied the score in the 86th minute and the two sides went to extra time.
Kaycee Manding scored on a 101st minute free kick to give the Jacks a victory. SDSU went on to win the 2025 conference title.
South Dakota State leads the all-time series 10-6-3 over South Dakota. The two foes tied their regular season meeting a season ago in Brookings, 1-1. The 2023 contest in Vermillion saw the Jacks earn a 1-0 victory behind a 20th minute goal by
Katelyn Beulke.
The Jackrabbits have been bolstered by a youth movement of late in scoring. Freshmen in Brezenski and Maloy are SDSU's top two scorers overall this season with 14 and 13 points, respectively. In conference play, Maloy leads The Summit League in scoring (8 points) and is tied for the conference lead in goals (3). Brezenski also has three goals, while she paces the league in shots (17) and is tied for second in points (6) along with teammate
Lauren Eckerle.
South Dakota enters Saturday's match 6-4-5 overall. The Coyotes' 2-2-1 record has them tied for fourth in the conference. USD most recently hada 2-1 defeat at Oral Roberts. Klarissa Vega has a team-high 17 points. Campbell Fischer has a 1.36 goals against average and .708 save percentage.
