South Dakota State travels to Cancun for the Cancun Challenge Thursday through Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel.
The Jackrabbits take on No. 12 North Carolina, Columbia and Kansas State, in that order. These four teams are a combined 17-6 entering the weekend. SDSU is 5-0 on the year and most recently took down Gonzaga 72-63 in Sioux Falls, the Jackrabbits' closest game of the year. Thursday's tournament opener against North Carolina will be SDSU's first ranked opponent this season.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State heads to Mexico over the Thanksgiving holiday for a trio of games at the Cancun Challenge at the Hard Rock Hotel.
- The Jackrabbits open the tournament against No. 12 North Carolina, then take on Columbia and K-State, both of which have received votes in the national polls at some point this season.
- In the AP Poll this week, South Dakota State is receiving 24 votes, the No. 2 RV team in the poll.
- As of Monday morning, South Dakota State ranks eighth in the country in field goal percentage (.513) and has shot above 55 percent twice this year.

- The Jacks last went to the Cancun Challenge during the 2019-20 season, going 2-1. SDSU topped No. 21 South Florida and Notre Dame on that trip before falling to Florida Gulf Coast.
- South Dakota State has three players averaging double digits - Brooklyn Meyer (22.6 PPG), Katie Vasecka (13.2) and Maddie Mathiowetz (11.6).
- Brooklyn Meyer ranks 13th in the nation in scoring (22.6 PPG) and fifth in blocks per game (3.20). Meyer is two blocks from moving into the top-five for career blocks at SDSU (page 7).
- Emilee Fox had a 4.50 assist/turnover ratio this season, which is ninth in the country. Maddie Mathiowetz is 55 percent from the 3-point line this year, which ranks 14th nationally.
- Brooklyn Meyer was named to the preseason watch lists for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award and the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award. She is also the Summit League's preseason player of the year.
- SDSU had four players named to the Summit League's preseason teams. Brooklyn Meyer and Madison Mathiowetz were first-team honorees while Katie Vasecka and Maggie Hartwig landed on the second team.
