South Dakota State continues its homestand with its final non-conference match of the season on Thursday when the Jackrabbits host Wyoming. The Jackrabbits and Cowgirls are scheduled for a 7 p.m. first kick at Fishback Soccer Park.Â
SDSU is currently on a seven-match unbeaten streak. Following four straight contests of scoring one goal, the Jackrabbits took advantage against Northern Colorado and scored six in a 6-3 rout of the Bears. The performance saw SDSU match its highest goal output against a Division I opponent since 2010. SDSU also registered a combined 11 assists in the match which set a new program record, topping the previous mark of nine which was last recorded in 2006. The 23 points were the most ever against a DI foe.
The Jackrabbits are 5-1-3 overall heading into Thursday's match. SDSU continues its trend among the best in Division I women's soccer. The Jacks' current .722 win percentage is the best mark among Summit League programs.Â
SDSU and Wyoming met a season ago in Laramie. The two sides squared off for the first time in 19 years at the end of August. The Jackrabbits scored two goals in the opening 30 minutes, and finished with a 16-10 edge in shots, as they closed out a 3-0 shutout over the Pokes. The two teams are 1-1 all-time.
Wyoming has made a turnaround from a season ago in which the Cowgirls went 4-6-9. Under second-year head coach Josh Purdum, Wyoming enters Thursday's meeting with a 5-1-1 record. The Cowgirls' ledger includes a 1-0 victory at then No. 15-ranked Georgia on Sept. 4. The seven-match start to the season is the second best in Wyoming's history.
Thursday's match saw several SDSU players move up the program leaderboard in points this season. Seven different players have scored five or more points led by
Hailee Christensen (9),
Emma Brezenski (8) and
MaKynlie Cade (8).Â
SDSU in the midst of a stretch of five straight home games that pushes into the conference slate. The Jackrabbits' first three Summit League matches are all slated to take place in Brookings. State will take on St. Thomas (Sept. 25), North Dakota (Oct. 2) and North Dakota State (Oct. 5).
