South Dakota State hosts Denver and North Dakota State at First Bank & Trust Arena in the third week of Summit League action.
The Jackrabbits enter the week with a 3-0 conference record and most recently knocked down 19 3-pointers to beat Oral Roberts 103-76 last weekend.
Denver is 7-9 overall and 1-2 in Summit League action. The Pioneers opened the Summit League season with a win over North Dakota, then dropped the next two to North Dakota State and St. Thomas (overtime). Coryn Watts is Denver's leading scorer with 20.1 points per contest, which is second in the Summit League behind SDSU's
Brooklyn Meyer.
North Dakota State enters the week with a 15-2 overall record and 4-0 Summit League mark. Since dropping early-season games to Gonzaga and Nebraska, NDSU has won 13 straight contests. Saturday's game against the Jackrabbits is NDSU's only contest of the week. Avery Koenen averages 18.4 points and 10.9 rebounds per game to lead the Bison, plus contributes 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State (13-4, 3-0 Summit) moves into week three of the Summit League season and hosts Denver (7-9, 1-2 Summit) Thursday night at First Bank & Trust Arena.
- Led by Brooklyn Meyer's 20.9 points per game, SDSU has six players averaging at least 7.0 points per contest. Paced by Emilee Fox (3.0 APG) and Brooklyn Meyer (2.8 APG), five players dish at least 2.0 assists per game.
- Meyer ranks 12th in the nation in scoring (20.8 PPG) and sixth in field goal percentage (.633). She is one of four players in the country averaging at least 20 points and shooting better than 60% this year. Of those four players, Meyer is the leader in assists and blocks.
- Katie Vasecka and Emilee Fox recently returned to the lineup after missing five and seven games, respectively, with injury. Against ORU last week the sophomores combined for 34 points, 10 3-pointers, 13 assists and eight rebounds.
- Maggie Hartwig and Madison Mathiowetz are both closing in on 1,000 career points. Hartwig, a junior, enters Thursday's game needing 12 points to hit the milestone while Mathiowetz, a senior, needs 28 points.
- The Jacks look to stretch their win streak against DU to 10 games, which began in the 2021-22 season. SDSU is 25-2 all-time against the Pios.
- Looking ahead, SDSU hosts longtime foe North Dakota State Saturday afternoon at First Bank & Trust Arena in a clash at the top of the Summit League. Both teams are top 10 in the mid-major poll and top 50 in the NET rankings.
- SDSU has won 66 straight Summit League regular season games, the longest active regular season conference win streak in the nation and tied for the fifth longest streak in NCAA history. Since the start of the 2020-21 slate, the Jackrabbits are 84-1 in the Summit League regular season.
