South Dakota State follows its conference-opening victory with a one-game road trip north as the Jackrabbits gear up to face North Dakota on Saturday. The Jackrabbits and Fighting Hawks tipoff at 1 p.m. inside the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in Grand Forks.
The Jackrabbits opened Summit League play with an 84-69 victory on Thursday over Omaha in First Bank & Trust Arena. The score was tied at 36 at halftime and SDSU came out of the break by scoring 13 consecutive points. State held Omaha to 28.1% shooting in the second half and eventually led for over 34 minutes of the game.
Damon Wilkinson scored 24 points and 19 rebounds for his third double-double performance of the season. Both marks were career highs while he also matched career bests in blocks (3) and assists (3). He's one of three Jackrabbits in the program's Division I era to record 19 rebounds in a game joining Mike Daum and
Oscar Cluff.
SDSU had three others score in double digits in the win versus the Mavericks. Mors scored his second highest point total of the season with 16 points.
Joe Sayler added 14 points while
Kalen Garry scored 13 points, had nine rebounds and six assists. In his last six games Garry is averaging 16.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. That stretch has seen him shoot 57.8% from the field and 55.3% from 3-point range.Â
South Dakota State is now 12-7 all-time in Summit League openers and has won six straight. The Jacks avoided their first four-game losing streak since the 2022-23 campaign. They also improved their all-time Summit League record to 183-91 (.668).
SDSU heads to Grand Forks to face UND which opened its league slate with a 72-61 win against Oral Roberts on Thursday. The Fighting Hawks, now 7-10 overall, saw George Natsvlishvili tie a career-high 19 points. Senior Eli King logged a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
UND holds a two-game win streak over SDSU following the Summit League quarterfinal 85-69 victory last March. The Fighting Hawks also beat SDSU last February in Grand Forks, 80-75. SDSU looks to avoid its first three-game skid against UND since a span from 1992-93.
