South Dakota State goes on the road to take on Omaha Saturday afternoon in the second game of the Summit League slate for both teams.
SDSU beat St. Thomas Thursday night in the league opener. The Jackrabbits are coming off a 10-4 non-conference slate that included a pair of five-game win streaks.
Omaha is 2-14 overall and coming off a 59-61 loss to Kansas City on New Year's Eve. Through six games, Cora Olsen was Omaha's scoring leader at 17.3 points per contest, but will miss the rest of the season with an injury. Sarai Estupinan scores 14.9 points per game.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State goes to Omaha Saturday for a late afternoon matchup with the Mavericks at Baxter Arena. The Jackrabbits opened the Summit League season with a 67-49 win over St. Thomas while the Mavs narrowly fell to Kansas City, 59-61, on New Year's Eve.
- Led by Brooklyn Meyer's 21.7 points per game, SDSU has six players averaging at least 6.0 points per contest. Paced by Meyer and Emilee Fox (2.7 APG), four players dish at least 2.0 assists per game.
- Meyer ranks 10th in the nation in scoring (21.7 PPG) and eighth in field goal percentage (.637). She is one of four players in the country averaging at least 20 points and shooting better than 60% this year.
- Madison Mathiowetz adds 11.9 points per game and leads the team with 27 3-point makes this year. She is 45% from the 3-point line.
- SDSU's offense has had 10 players score 10+ points at least once this season - Meyer, Mathiowetz, Vasecka, Fox, Hartwig, Abdouch, Thul, Colbeck, Felchle and Behrens.
- SDSU had four players named to the Summit League's preseason teams. Brooklyn Meyer and Madison Mathiowetz were first-team honorees while Katie Vasecka and Maggie Hartwig landed on the second team.
- SDSU has won 64 straight Summit League regular season games, the longest active regular season conference win streak in the nation and sixth longest streak in NCAA history. Since the start of the 2020-21 slate, the Jackrabbits are 82-1 in the Summit League regular season.
