SDSU HEADS TO VERMILLION FOR START OF LEAGUE SLATE

South Dakota State begins it Summit League slate this week with a pair of matches. The Jackrabbits first head to Vermillion to take on South Dakota at 6 p.m. Thursday, as a part of their conference opener and the Interstate Series, presented by First Interstate Bank. SDSU then hosts its annual GOALD game at 1 p.m. on Sunday when the Jackrabbits face North Dakota at Fishback Soccer Park.
The Jackrabbits return to action following a non-conference schedule that saw SDSU accrue a 5-2-1 record. SDSU had an 11-day break between games with its most recent competition in Utah. The Jacks earned a 3-2 win at Weber State, then fell 3-0 at now-ranked Utah State by a 3-0 score. Thursday's match begins a 10-game stretch of Summit League matches in the first season of the conference's pod format.
South Dakota State hits the midway point of its schedule this week being led by a variety of players. Jenna Maloy has a team-high five goals and 10 points. Mia Bosch follows her with nine points and a team-best five assists. Deizha Lyn Jacinto has scored eight points. Among SDSU's minutes leaders include sophomore Gentry Williams (487) and senior captain Ellie Gusman (455).
SDSU and South Dakota meet to renew a head-to-head series that has been near even of late. The Jackrabbits hold a 2-1-3 record over the Coyotes since the 2021 season, though one of SDSU's wins came in postseason play. SDSU is just 3-5-2 all-time in Vermillion, including a 1-1-1 mark in its last three visits to First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex.
South Dakota enters Thursday's match with a 3-3-2 record this season. The Coyotes most recent match came on Sept. 6 which they claimed a 2-0 victory against Drake. South Dakota has put an emphasis on creating opportunities by producing 116 shots with 44 on goal. The Yotes' Gabbie Ryan (16), Klarissa Vega (15) and Brooke Conway (15) rank 6-8 in The Summit League's leader table in the category. USD goalkeeper Cambell Fischer ranks among the conference's top three individuals in goals against average (1.05), saves (32) and save percentage (.800).
SDSU is back home Sunday when it hosts North Dakota. The GOALD game is in conjunction with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation in supporting a cure for childhood cancer. Northwestern Mutual will be providing all fans that attend Sunday's GOALD match between SDSU and North Dakota free tickets. Fans are encouraged to contribute to the SDSU women's soccer team's fundraiser with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.
