Slade Larscheid was announced as South Dakota State University's Deputy Athletic Director on September 9, 2020, bringing more than a decade of experience in athletic administration, fundraising and marketing into the position.
Larscheid’s role is supporting director of athletics, Justin Sell, with the day-to-day operations of the athletics department with oversight of all revenue generation and external relations, including fundraising, ticketing, marketing and communications. He also serves as the liaison with the SDSU Foundation, Jackrabbit Sports Properties and SDSU Alumni Association.Additionally, Larscheid serves as the sport administrator and supervisor for the football and wrestling programs. The 2022-23 season was extra special with an FCS National Championship in football and 14th overall team finish in the NCAA Wrestling Championships.
Since his return to SDSU, Larscheid has helped guide and lead record numbers in major gift fundraising to the First Bank & Trust Arena project, Jackrabbit Club and overall ticket sales.
Prior to SDSU, he served as director of athletics at Augustana University from 2014 to 2018. Under his leadership, the Vikings had unprecedented success in the classroom, competition and fundraising. It was capped off when Augustana won the NCAA Division II men’s basketball national championship in 2016.
A member of SDSU’s athletic administration from 2011-13, Larscheid returned to the Jackrabbits after spending time most recently as a major gifts fundraiser with the South Dakota State University Foundation. Larscheid also worked as an athletic director in the Sioux Falls School District, as well as in athletic fundraising positions at Northern Illinois University and University of South Dakota.
A native of Spearfish, South Dakota, Slade attended Northwestern University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in communications and master’s in sports administration. He was also a three-year letterwinner for the Wildcat football team, while earning academic All-Big Ten and scholar-athlete honors in 2006.
Slade and his wife, Stephanie, reside in Brookings with their four children.
