South Dakota State dropped the first game, but came back to win the next three to defeat Creighton (Neb.) in collegiate volleyball action Tuesday night at Frost Arena.
Game scores were 31-33, 30-24, 30-25 and 30-25 in favor of the Jackrabbits, who improved to 10-4 overall. SDSU closed out Game 4 with a 14-4 run to hand Creighton just its second loss of the season. The Bluejays dropped to 10-2 overall.
Four players for each team recorded double figures for kills. Jackrabbit right-side hitter Kristina Martin led all players with 21 kills, while Minette Ridenour turned in a double-double with 17 kills and 13 digs. Amy Anderson tallied 15 kills and hit .379 (15 kills, 4 errors in 29 attempts), with Laura Slagter adding 12 kills.
Kristie Klusaw totaled 59 set assists and added 11 digs as SDSU out-hit the Bluejays .265 to .197 for the match.
Samantha Pearson led all players with 20 digs, with Justine Olsen contributing 11 in a reserve role.
Creighton was led by Kelly Goc's 19 kills. Jessica Houts posted 15 kills and a .462 hitting percentage (15-3-26). Amanda Cvejdlik added 13 kills and Abby Baumann contributed 12 kills and a team-high 18 digs.
Korie Lebeda notched a double-double for the Bluejays with 56 assists and 16 digs.
The Jackrabbits move on to play three matches this weekend at the IPFW Volleyball Invitational in Fort Wayne, Ind. SDSU is scheduled to play North Florida at noon Eastern (11 a.m. Central) Friday, followed by a 7:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. match with host IPFW Friday night. SDSU closes out tournament play Saturday with a 5 p.m ET (4 p.m. Central) match against Robert Morris (Pa.).
Creighton hosts Drake Friday night in Missouri Valley Conference action before taking on top-ranked Nebraska Sunday afternoon.
