ORLANDO, Fla. ? South Dakota State's Corey Paluch needed a win in No. 1 singles to secure a Jackrabbit men's tennis win on Wednesday at the Orlando Classic to break a 3-3 tie with La Salle (Pa.) and secure an SDSU win. After winning the first set in a tiebreaker, Paluch sealed the 4-3 Jackrabbit win with a 6-2 second set triumph.
A junior from Rapid City, Paluch won the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-5) and, along with Michael Engdahl, won the No. 1 doubles match 8-6. The two wins give Paluch a 4-0 singles record and a 2-2 doubles record with Engdahl at the Orlando Classic.
The Jackrabbits as a team improved to 5-6 in dual play heading into their final match at the Orlando Classic on Friday against St. Joseph's (Pa.).
Along with his doubles match with Paluch, Engdahl won his No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-0, while Justin Pyle hung on to win No. 4 singles 6-2, 7-5. Pyle also teamed with Evan Sims to win No. 2 doubles 8-4.
