ORLANDO, Fla. ? South Dakota State junior Corey Paluch made it a clean sweep at the Orlando Classic in his singles matches and, along with doubles partner Michael Engdahl, improved to 3-2 in doubles matches, but the Jackrabbits as a team came up short on Friday, falling to St. Joseph's (Pa.) 5-2, in Orlando, Fla.
Paluch's win gives him a perfect 5-0 record in singles matches over the week, four of them at No. 1 and one of them at No. 2 singles. He won his first set on Friday 6-3, but an injury forced his opponent to retire in the second set, giving Pauluch the default win.
Engdahl faltered in the first set of his No. 2 singles match, losing 6-3, but the senior from St. Cloud, Minn., fought back to win the second set 6-3, and the tiebreaker 10-6.
Paluch and Engdahl aso teamed-up to win their No. 1 doubles match 8-2.
The Jackrabbits, who fall to 5-7 in dual matches, return to action on Saturday, March 21, in St. Cloud, Minn., with matches against St. John's (Minn.) and St. Cloud State.
