SARTELL, Minn. ? Injuries and illness took its toll on the South Dakota State men's tennis team on Saturday, as the Jackrabbits dropped matches against St. Cloud State 5-4, and to St. John's (Minn.) 7-2, at Gold's Gym in Sartell, Minn.
The two losses drop the Jacks to 5-9 in duals heading into next week's Summit League Cluster in Tulsa, Okla.
Playing without three starters due to injury or illness, SDSU got wins from Justin Pyle at No. 2 singles, by Evan Sims at No. 5 singles and by Jeff Hughes at No. 6 singles for three of the Jacks points.
SDSU won just one doubles match, when Wade Kippley and Hughes teamed-up to win their No. 3 doubles match.
Hughes also won his No. 6 singles match against St. John's, while Pyle and Sims won their No. 2 doubles match for the only two points against the Johnnies.
The Jacks return to action on Saturday in Tulsa with a match against IPFW and then play Centenary on Saturday.
