South Dakota State played five sets for the fourth straight match, but it worked out for the Jackrabbits in the end, as the Jacks rallied to beat IUPUI 3-2 on Friday night at Frost Arena in front of 623 Hobo Week fans.
The Jacks improve to 10-12 overall and an even 6-6 in The Summit League by the set scores of 19-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-8 and 18-16. IUPUI falls to 6-17 overall with the loss, 5-7 in league play.
Kelli Fiegen returned from injury to lead the Jackrabbits with 19 kills in the win and hit .417 for the match (19-4-36). Kaitlin Klingemann tied a career-high with 15 kills in the win and did so in impressive fashion with a .500 hitting percentage (15-2-26). Bailey Philippot added a career-high 12 kills for the Jacks.
Thyele Rechatiko set all of the hitter up to the tune of 64 set assists, topping a career-high mark of 55 set on Tuesday in the 3-2 loss to Drake. Rechatiko also tied a career-high with 17 digs for her team-leading 12th double-double of the season.
Moriah Fair led the Jaguars with 16 kills in the loss, Kalyse Reimbold added 14 and Bethany Folger 10 kills.
IUPUI opened the match with an easy first set win, only to see the Jacks return the favor in the second set. The Jacks battled in the third set before falling 25-23, but used runs of 10-0, 4-0 and 5-0 to cruise to a 25-8 win.
IUPUI came out swinging in the fifth set, and opened up a 4-1 lead early, prompting a Jackrabbit timeout. The Jacks responded with three in a row to tie the set at 4-4.
SDSU would eventually go up 12-10, only to see the Jaguars come back with a 4-0 run to take a 14-12 lead. IUPUI reached the 15-point mark first, but the Jacks scored the next two points to go up 16-15.
The Jags then tied the match at 16-all, but kills by Youngren and Philippot put the Jacks up 18-16, thus ending the match.
The Jackrabbits return to action on Hobo Day Saturday, when they "Dig Pink" against Western Illinois, who fell 3-1 at North Dakota State on Friday.
