SHREVEPORT, La. - The South Dakota State volleyball team started its second winning streak of the 2010 season with a convincing 3-0 sweep of Centenary on Friday night in Shreveport, La.
"The team did a great job refining our offense and passing consistently each set," head coach Nanabah Allison-Brewer said. "We played Jackrabbit volleyball, where blocking and digs gave us a lot of energy, and we fed off that energy in a big way."
The win, by the set scores of 25-18, 25-16, 25-13, boosts the Jackrabbits record to an even 6-6 on the season and an even 2-2 in The Summit League. Centenary falls to 3-9 overall and remains winless in league play at 0-5.
Ellyce Youngren led the Jacks with 10 kills in the win, Kelli Fiegen added 10 kills with a .571 hitting percentage (8-0-14) and Kaitlin Klingemann six kills with a .556 hitting percentage (6-1-9).
Stevie Hurlbirt led the Ladies with a match-high 15 kills in the loss. Â
Centenary scored first in all three sets, but the Jacks scored the second and third points in all three sets and cruised to wins in each set.
The Jacks get Saturday off before returning to action on Sunday, when they travel to Tulsa, Okla., to take on Oral Roberts at 2 p.m. The Golden Eagles fell to North Dakota State 3-0 on Friday.
