ORLANDO, FLA. - The South Dakota State tennis teams swept the University of Indianapolis with the men prevailing 5-1 and the women winning 6-1 on Sunday.
The men (7-3) swept all five singles matches that were finished starting with Justin Pyle at #1 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. #4 Chris Baron had a nice comeback after losing the first set 1-6 before claiming the next two 6-3, 6-3.
Jamie Dash and Dominic Rossetto joined to give the Jacks their lone doubles win with a 8-6 victory over Caleb Fellers and David Schoch.
"The men had a great fight back after losing the doubles point and have shown they are willing the fight for every match," said men's coach Michael Engdahl. "With our 7-3 record, we are looking to ride the momentum into Summit League play next weekend."
The women (3-6) were equally successful winning five singles matches, including a 6-3, 6-4 win for Jenny Blackburne at #1 and a #3 win for Bryna Nasenbeny by the score of 6-1, 6-1. Natalia Medina at #4 won 6-2, 6-2, Megan McDougall at #5 won 6-1, 5-7 and 10-4 and #6 Bethany Goeden was victorious 6-3, 6-3.
"We are really happy with everyone's focus today," said Engdahl. "Everyone has been working hard all week and it is starting to show on the scoreboard."
The Jacks conclude their week stay in Florida Tuesday as the men and women take on Bucknell.
