BROOKINGS, S.D. – Nov. 21, 2015 – Despite a game-high 23 points by sophomore guard Macy Miller, the South Dakota State University women's basketball team suffered a 75-64 loss to No. 3 Notre Dame Saturday afternoon in front of a regular-season record 5,532 fans at Frost Arena.
The Jackrabbits' 12-game home winning streak ends and they are now 2-1 on the season.
Junior guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) scored 14 points for the Jackrabbits while junior forward Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Notre Dame (3-0) was led by Brianna Turner's 20 points and game-high 9 rebounds. Madison Cable and Kathryn Westbeld added 14 and 10 points, respectively.
The Jackrabbits used a 10-6 run to build a 17-13 lead in the first quarter. Turner scored in the final 40 seconds to cut the lead to 17-15.
The teams traded the lead for most of the second quarter. The Irish used a 10-3 run late in the quarter for a 34-27 lead with 1:19 to play in the half on Michaela Mabrey's 3-point field goal.
Gabrielle Boever (Worthington, Minn.) then sank a 3-pointer and Ellie Thompson (Chaska, Minn.) made a free throw to bring the Jacks within three, 34-31, at halftime. South Dakota State made only 4 of 15 field goals in the second quarter.
Turner and Westbeld each scored six points in the third quarter as the Irish took a 60-46 lead with 19 seconds remaining when Westbeld scored inside. Young then sank a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 11, 60-49.
Miller scored 10 points in the final quarter.
South Dakota State plays Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
