BROOKINGS, S.D.— After three home games, the South Dakota State women's basketball team travels south for Thanksgiving for the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Thursday thru Saturday.
- The Jackrabbits open the Jam Thursday at 7 p.m. vs. Pittsburgh, play No. 6 Maryland Friday at 4:45 p.m. and Old Dominion Saturday at 4:45 p.m.
- SDSU, 2-1, fell short in its upset bid against No. 3 Notre Dame Nov. 21. The Jacks trailed by single digits vs. the Irish with 1:31 to play, but couldn't overcome the deficit. Summit League Player of the Year candidate Macy Miller had a game-high 23 points while shooting 53.3 percent from the field.
- Pittsburgh, 3-0, won both its games last week. The Panthers won at St. Francis (Pa.), 74-59, and defeated Delaware State, 77-43, in a neutral-site game.
- Maryland won its third game of the season, defeating Detroit Mercy, 97-41, Nov. 20. With the win, the No. 6 ranked Terrapins enter the week 3-0.
- Old Dominion, 1-2, lost to Miami Nov. 17 and hosts East Tennessee State Monday night.
- It will be the first meeting between the Jacks, Pittsburgh and Old Dominion. SDSU lost to Maryland in 2008 at the Caribbean Challenge MTE in Cancun, Mexico.

- SDSU is 2-3 since 2004-05 when playing on Thanksgiving in five tournaments.
- The Jackrabbits are making their sixth trip south since 2004-05 to play in a nonconference tournament.
- South Dakota State is 6-10 in nonconference tournaments.
- In the five tournaments, SDSU has played in Cancun, Mexico, and Freeport, Bahamas, twice, and the U.S. Virgin Islands once.
- The last time South Dakota State played in the Paradise Jam was Nov. 25-27, 2004, the first season SDSU was a Division I program. The Jacks lost to Rutgers, 68-50, beat Kentucky, 57-55, and then fell to Oregon State, 68-65.
- The Jackrabbits are 16-12 in regular-season tournaments. The last tournament they played in was the UNLV Lady Rebel Round-Up in Las Vegas, Nev. The Jacks won the tournament with victories over Northern Illinois (55-42) and UNLV (65-59).
- Despite losing to Notre Dame, South Dakota State should move up in this week's CollegeInsider Mid-Major poll. The Jacks were 10th in last week's poll.

Terripins To Much for Jackrabbits
CANCUN, Mexico—Nov. 26, 2008—Tenth-ranked Maryland employed a balanced scoring attack and bridged a 13-0 run from the end of the first half to the opening minutes of the second half to pull away from South Dakota State for a 68-56 victory in the opening game of the Cancun Challenge MTE Tournament.
- The Terrapins jumped out to an early 8-2 run, only to see SDSU whittle away at the deficit before the Jackrabbits took their first lead of the game as Stacie Oistad broke a 16-all deadlock on a 3-pointer with 4:21 remaining in the first half. Oistad hit another 3-pointer on the next trip down the floor and Jill Young added a triple to finish off a 12-2 Jackrabbit run that gave them a 25-18 advantage with 2:44 remaining in the half.
- Maryland's Lynetta Kizer closed the half, scoring the final six points to pull the Terrapins to within one at intermission, 25-24.
- In the second half, Kizer opened the scoring with a traditional three-point play that gave Maryland the lead for good. After building a double-digit lead for the first time at 49-39, SDSU would get no closer than six, 49-43, following a Kristin Rotert 3-pointer and free throw by Young with 8:04 remaining in the game.
- Maryland shot 56 percent in the second half, 18-of-32, led by Kristi Tolliver, who scored 10 of her team-high 16 points in the final 20 minutes. Kizer and Demauria Liles each turned in double-doubles of 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Terrapins. Marissa Coleman added 15 points.
- SDSU was led by Jennifer Warkenthien, who scored a game-high 17 points and shared team-high honors with 7 rebounds. Maria Boever added 10 points and 7 rebounds.
A Look at Old Dominion
- Old Dominion is 1-2 on the season after losing at Richmond in the season opener (62-57), defeating Wagner (71-57) and falling to Miami (61-35) at home. It hosted East Tennessee State Monday night.
