LORMAN, MISS. — The South Dakota State men's tennis team closed its spring-break road trip with a 4-1 victory over Alcorn State.
"I am proud of both teams this week," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "If we can survive this trip, we can survive everything. We had every distraction imaginable happen to us, and we were still able to play some great tennis. I know we will have an awesome week of practice, and we will look to keep the positive momentum when we travel to Kansas City."
The Jackrabbits won three singles matches on the day. After dropping the first second-singles set, 6-3, Henrique Pereira rallied to force a decisive third set, winning the tiebreaker to score a 7-6 win in the second. He then won the third in commanding fashion, 6-1. Parker Lawley won handily at third singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Mateus Moreira won a nail-biter at fifth singles. Moreira won the third set in a tiebreaker, 7-1, to record the victory.
The Jackrabbits also won the doubles point on the strength of wins by Lawley and Andrea Boglic at first doubles and Lovro Curcija and Stefano Blatt at third doubles. Lawley and Boglic won, 8-3, while Curcija and Blatt scored an 8-6 win.
Three matches, one at doubles and two at singles, were left unfinished. The Jackrabbits return to action Saturday, March 21 against UM-Kansas City.
