KANSAS CITY, MO. — The South Dakota State men's tennis team dispatched Cowley College, 5-2, but fell to UMKC by the same score Saturday.
"Overall today was a good day," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We really wanted to focus on our positivity and intensity with Summit League matches starting next week. We had great spurts of energy and focus, but we need to make sure we keep the doing the right things even when we are losing points. We are very close to where we want to be next week and I believe we will get there after tomorrow's matches."
Against Cowley College, Henrique Pereira, Parker Lawley, Lovro Curcija and Gary Notkin claimed victories. The Jackrabbits also won all three doubles matches.
Against UMKC, the Jackrabbits won two singles and one doubles match. At first doubles, Lawley and Andrea Boglic defeated Airam Castellano and Mike Psarros, 8-4. Lawley bested Vinh Pham in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 at third singles while Curcija toppled Uldis Gaismins at fourth singles, 6-4, 2-6, 10-4.
The Jackrabbits return to action tomorrow when they face Rockhurst at 11 a.m.
