FOREST RIVER, Ill.—The South Dakota State men's tennis team lost all six of its matches, including four finals, Sunday at the River Forest Collegiate.
"Today was another good day for us. We didn't get the results we wanted, but we competed the right way," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "It was the type of day where we actually learned more by losing some tight matches. We definitely took two steps forward today and we are looking forward to a couple of weeks of practice before Omaha."
Junior Jonny Higham was the lone winner Sunday, defeating Garrett Mandreu of Morehead State, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 in the flight C back draw. He also won at flight D doubles with Jack Dykema of Xavier to down Erich Schuette and Tom Hjertonsson of Northern Illinois, 6-1.
Senior Novro Curcija had his eight-match winning streak snapped with a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Ritchie Kruuenberg of Morehead in the flight A singles.
In the flight B finals, freshman Emerson Styles lost, 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) to Georg Lundkvist of Northern Illinois.
