MARQUETTE, Wis.—The South Dakota State men's tennis team had a rough start to the weekend, losing 7-0 to Marquette Friday afternoon at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium in Milwaukee, Wis.,
"I am so impressed with our guys right now. This was a tough loss to take because we did everything we wanted to do. We just need to get better at closing out our opportunities, something Marquette did tremendously today," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We are going to win a lot of matches this year if we compete the way we did today. We just need to get over the first hump."
The Golden Eagles swept the singles matches and won the doubles point to improve to 2-0 on the season. With the loss, the Jackrabbits fall to 0-3.
Senior Lovro Curcija was the closest to scoring a win for SDSU, dropping a 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 decision to Alvaro Verdu at No. 2 singles.
The Jackrabbits return to action Saturday at 6 p.m. when they play Wisconsin at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis.
