BROOKINGS, S.D.—Jan. 7, 2016—Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) scored a career-high 23 points to lead the South Dakota State women's basketball team to a 68-58 win over Omaha Thursday night in The Summit League action before 1,628 fans at Frost Arena.
South Dakota State improved to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in The Summit League. Omaha falls to 9-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Guebert, a freshman guard, made a career-high six 3-point field goals. Three of those 3-pointers came during the second quarter as the Jackrabbits outscored Omaha 13-3. That scoring outburst gave the Jackrabbits a 28-18 halftime lead.
Omaha, which was led by Mikaela Shaw's 21 points, led by five points twice in the first quarter, the last time being 13-8 with 3:14 left in the quarter. Guebert sank the first of her 3-pointers to bring SDSU within one, 14-13, with 1:22 to play.
South Dakota State held a 19-18 lead after Shaw made one of two free throws with 5:36 to play in the second quarter. Guebert then scored all nine of the Jackrabbits' points while the Mavericks committed six turnovers and missed five shots to close the half.
Senior guard Chloe Cornemann (Yankton) gave the Jacks a 41-24 lead when she sank a shot with 2:18 left in the third quarter. Cornemann scored six points in the third quarter and added a career-high five rebounds for the game.
Junior forward Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.) added 12 points for the Jacks.
South Dakota State plays at Fort Wayne Wednesday at 6 p.m.
