BROOKINGS, S.D.—Feb. 13, 2016—The South Dakota State University women's basketball team outscored Fort Wayne 55-23 during the second and third quarters as the Jackrabbits rolled to a 92-64 win Saturday afternoon in front of 3,209 fans at Frost Arena in The Summit League action.
The win was SDSU's seventh straight and the 92 points are a season-best.
The Jackrabbits, now 21-4 and 11-1, were led by sophomore guard Macy Miller's (Mitchell) 18 points and 6 assists. Junior guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) and sophomore forward Ellie Thompson (Chaska, Minn.) added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Senior guard Chloe Cornemann (Yankton) scored a career-high 10 points. Junior forward Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.) snared 12 rebounds and blocked 3 shots. All 12 Jackrabbits scored in the contest.
Fort Wayne, 5-20, 1-11, was led by Allyson Bunch's 22 points. Courtney Ogle and Keanna Gary each scored 10 points.
South Dakota State used three 3-point field goals to outscore Fort Wayne 20-17 in the first quarter. The teams traded points for most of the second quarter before the Jackrabbits closed the first half with an 11-0 run. Miller scored six of those points as SDSU held a 47-29 halftime lead.
The Jacks eventually pushed their lead to 36 points, 73-37, when Ober scored with 1:05 left in the third quarter. Miller scored six points in the quarter while Thompson and freshman guard Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) each added five points.
SDSU closes the regular season home schedule at 7 p.m. Thursday against Denver.
