SAN ANTONIO, Texas—The South Dakota State women's tennis team won four singles and the doubles point to defeat Texas-Permian Basin 5-2 Saturday.
With the win, the Jackrabbits improve to 3-4 and the Falcons fall to 0-5.
"Today may have not been our best day of tennis, but it was definitely our best team-wise," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "Our energy was great, our focus was great, and we were mentally strong the entire day. If we can couple the day we had today, energy-wise, with the tennis we have been playing earlier this year, we are going to be a dangerous team moving forward."
Senior Iasmin Rosa won her second singles match of the weekend with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Lisa Roslanova at No. 1. Senior Ffion Davies won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Senior Tacy Haws-Lay picked up her second consecutive win with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Shelby Greene at No. 5. Freshman Morgan Brower also won, 6-4, 7-6 at No. 6.
Rosa and Davies won at No. 1 doubles, 6-1. Haws-Lay and Brower won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles and seniors Florencia Magni and Beatriz Souza made it a sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 3.
