SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—The South Dakota State men's tennis team won its fourth consecutive match and recorded its second shutout of the season, defeating William Jewell, 7-0, Saturday morning at Huether Family Match Pointe.
With the win, the Jackrabbits improve to 4-4 while the Cardinals fall to 3-5.
"The team continued to roll this morning with great energy and smart tennis," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We executed very well and played smart tennis. The team should feel confident and proud going into the North Dakota match this afternoon."
Senior Lovro Curcija improved to 4-1 at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Rookie Emerson Styles picked up his first collegiate win at No. 2 while senior Henrique Pereira remained undefeated at No. 3.
Senior Mateus Moreira extended his winning streak to four with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4. Senior Lucas Pereira picked up his first win of the season at No. 5 while sophomore Marco Paulo Castro improved to 2-0 at No. 6.
In doubles, SDSU won its fourth consecutive point with all three teams winning. Junior Jonny Higham and Castro won their third-straight match and improve to 2-0 at No. 3.
The Jackrabbits return to action this afternoon when they host North Dakota at 3:30 p.m.
