ORLANDO, Fla.—The South Dakota State women's tennis won its eight match of the season with a 6-1 win over St. Francis (Ill.) Thursday.
With the win, the Jackrabbits are now 8-5 overall and play Norfolk today.
"We did a great job maintaining energy during a long day of tennis. It can be easy to lose focus when we have this much tennis in one day, but we were able to set that aside and play the tennis we ant to play," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "With the quick turn around before the match today, it will be a good test for us mentally and physically."
The Jackrabbits won their 10th doubles point of the year, winning two of the three matches. Senior Ffion Davies and junior Iasmin Rosa won 8-2 at No. 1 and the freshman duo of Morgan Brower and Emma Foster won 8-2 at No. 3.
SDSU swept five of the six singles matches. Brower won her first match at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-4. Sophomore Maria Laura Velazco and Foster won their first collegiate singles matches, winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 and 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6, respectively.
