BROOKINGS, S.D.—After taking a week off, the South Dakota State women's tennis team plays five matches in four days when it travels to Florida.
The Jackrabbits open with matches vs. Florida A&M and Hampton Tuesday, matches vs. St. Francis (Ill.) and James Madison Thursday and their last match vs. Norfolk State Friday.
"The excitement and intensity level has picked up over the last week, which shows our girls are headed in the right direction. We have a lot of tennis in a week with two doubleheaders so it will be a great opportunity to build on what we have been working toward all season," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We will see different types of opponents, which is always nice. Everyone is excited and I expect nothing but great tennis to be played all week."
SDSU won its first two home matches of the season in its last outing. The Jacks defeated North Dakota, 4-3, and William Jewell, 7-0, Feb. 26.
After recording the match-winning, come-from-behind point for the Jackrabbits vs. North Dakota, senior Ffion Davies has a two-match win streak in singles. She is 3-5 at No. 2 and 2-0 at No. 3.
Three other Jackrabbits—seniors Florencia Magni and Beatriz Souza and freshman Morgan Brower—also have two-match winning streaks.
In doubles, senior Tacy Haws-Lay and Brower have won their last seven matches and are 7-2 at No. 3 and 1-0 at No. 2. They are fifth overall and third at No. 3 in The Summit League standings.
